I have just watched The Old Guard. An enjoyable action flick but not quite as good as I was expecting based on the trailer. I will watch again though.
Good way to spend 120mins. Villain is a bit cartoonish with eyes way, way too close together. Charlize looks great.

The Festival
Odd British movie about a boring, insecure fella that splits with his missus and then goes to a festival with his bud to get over it. Pretty shit to be honest, but is kind of watchable. Has some odd scenes in it which are pretty unexpected
2 goat shaggers out of 5 realisations that I'm old.

Monster - biopic of serial killer Aileen Wournos. One of those films I'd never quite managed to see
Astonishing performance from Charlize Theron - Christine Ricci was pretty good too. Pretty dark tale and absolutely riveting.
4.5 Ted Bundys out of 5 Hannibal Lectors

Such a transformation in her appearance too.

One of those few actors who can physically disappear into a role as to be unrecognisable.

The type of flick that you search Netflix for. They don't all have to be be great but just basic action movies with a bit of a storyline that are well produced aren't as common as you think.
A set up for number 2 was telegraphed early in the movie, so we will probably get another.

Sorry to hear that mate. Still, at least it's only once a month.

@Bovidae watched The Old Guard the other day, enjoyable movie.
3.5 insignificant acts out of 5 more significant outcomes
:::While may be set up for a sequel, it looks like it will be sans Charlize, or she will likely die early on
:::
Greyhound - like others, really enjoyed this, great tension from a fairly basic and well told storyline. Does make a change for a movie like this to not be 2 or 3 hours long, but nt sure how they could have extended it much more, without adding flashbacks or another attack, or maybe the cheesy ending
:::
where the wolf appears near the end to have 1 last crack for a final battle
:::
3.5 good lucks to surviving the night out of 5 evasive manoeuvres
-
Watched 1922 from the Stephen King novella.
Enjoyable - dark and brooding with an obvious outcome but still kept you hooked.
4 Randall Flagg's out of 5 Pennywise the Clowns.

I had no interest in this film initially, I broke my own rule of watching previews and it didn't look that good, and I'm not the Charlize fan that everyone in this place seems to be ... but I was listening to the Fatman Beyond podcast and they had the writer of the film (and comic) on the show. He was really interesting so I thought I'd give it a watch and really enjoyed.
:::
I think Charlize is the main producer of the film (and a series) so I assume she'll stay around longer, you could take a sneak peek at the comic I guess to see if she's still in it.
:::
Also watched Hamilton, counting it as a film, it had a director and was filmed ... I actually don't like musical movies but do like musicals in the theatre.
This lived up to the hype, I really want to see it live now.
:::
The only issue I had was that I felt the way it ended, without a big number, seemed slightly flat considering what had come before.

I really enjoyed the Old Guard. Hope they keep making them, left me wanting more.

I assume it has done well enough on Netflix for them to make the sequel.

I saw Hamilton in London. It was tedious. Once you get past the gimmick of blacks playing whites and rap being used as the music it was overblown crap.
Mind you I have decided that I canβt stand musicals especially long ones in uncomfortable and expensive seats where the audience goes stupid just because an actor gives them a wink.
