Not sure if anyone is following the investigation going on at the moment over in oz but the head of the Catholic Church said he wouldn't have been interested in hearing about one of his priests who was raping a boy in his care. Quite a contrast in attitudes there, ones in a consensual long term relationship and that's the church's business, but they arent g interested in a member of the clergy forcing himself on a young boy.

We're talking about people who hear special voices and think that they answer to that voice, not everyone else. An institution that has enjoyed and taken advantage of privileged position in society.

Here's the cardinal I was talking about http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia/77444188/top-cardinal-says-he-wasnt-interested-in-complaints-about-paedophile-priest

Pell is an overly ambitious sociopath. He only thinks it was a mistake because it might tarnish his image. He'd let the fucking world burn if it meant he could be Pope.

Some people are defending him on twitter, and look, he's not guilty of touching kiddies himself. But the standard you walk past is the standard you accept in any organisation, and he's tied a boat anchor to both his testes.

This. There is no excuse for turning a blind eye to criminal behaviour involving young, vulnerable kids. Especially sex abuse. The two of them should be subject to some old testament punishment.

His modus operandi in these discussion is to spout bullshit about "No-one ever came to me with evidence, because they knew that I wouldn't stand by and shift priests around different parishes to try and hide their wrongdoing"

I recon Pell is a detestable human being whose sole purpose was to protect the church and by extension himself.

However ... the bold bit above ...

I'm not sure if that's exactly what he said... Without reading your link there Jeg ... I understood it was that more back in that time it had no interest for him ... which I read as he didn't get it ... which is kind of understandabl (not right ... understandable ).

What he's done subsequdntly has been pretty fucking ordimary.

This is the thing I just cant understand, the church has the right to collect taxes (atleast in Finland) and they have no responsibility. If a political party doesnt support mass immigration or gay rights, they loose funding from the state, why should the church be any different?
Make them behave like normal human beings or take money off from them, fucking fluffies.

And then there is this lad in my rugby club, nicest bugger going around, highly religious, can take a joke and is always a joy to talk to. Has absolutely nothing against gays, nor transsexual people and actually takes part in pride-things and whatnot.

But its the old school conservative people who flip my shit over, like the leader of the Christian democratic party; She actually said in live-TV that she got gay-friends but still wont support gay marriage, what an absolute waste of oxygen. To top it all she is a doctor, an actual medical doctor and still believes on stories and bases her politics on bits and pieces of a 2000-year-old book.

I have no problem with them going after the Catholic Church and finding and charging those responsible for these crimes. But this Pell business is a bit of a pile on. I agree that it would help if he actually showed some empathy (he is a PR disaster), but he was the guy that, pretty much as soon as he became a Bishop, set up the Melbourne response to compensate and help victims. He's now appeared before the royal commission 3 times and faced questions like:

"Are you now, or have you ever been a Catholic?"

I really dont know about this "common knowledge that he was a paedo" stuff. I once played on a rugby team with a guy who is now a convicted peadophile. Nobody had any idea. It's not like he advertised it. Well-known journalist and former priest Paul Bongiorno shared a presbytery with that paedophile priest Ridsdale and was completely clueless. He lived in the same house as him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying defend what occurred or the pathetic response to it. I'm simply saying that Pell actually did take action and imho doesn't deserve to be destroyed in this way.

By their very nature paedos don't advertise. I knew a bloke that we all thought was a bit dodgy (financially) and we were all waiting with baited breath when he was up in court for fraud. Then the case got postponed, as after the police seized his computer they found thousands of kiddy porn images downloaded. Thousands. Including some category 1 shit.

As I said, we all thought he was dodgy but no-one thought hmmm, pervert.

Can't big business directors be held accountable for fraudulent, mismanagement type shit that goes down supposedly without thier knowledge, but like taxes and other stuff, churches seem to be held to a different set of rules.

Surely with the churches history of paedos then he should be held to a higher standard to ensure it is kept clean.

What? Can you clarify what you are talking about? Why should any political party lose funding for not supporting mass immigration or gay rights?

I think supporting gay rights and mass immigration in Europe are extremely conflicted. You think Catholics dont like homosexuals.. check out what the Muslim immigrants think of it...

The left parties in Europe have got an issue. How do you support homosexual rights whilst also importing hundreds of thousands of religious people who are incredibly intolerant?

There is a case in Finland where a youth right wing party got less government funding than leftists becouse their agenda did not include supporting "multiculturalism" or something like that, which in Europe means mass immigration.

If you want to google translate, I think they are in still in court about it.

The political situation in Finland is a mess alltogether. We have been living with debt for too long, our pension system is about to crash down, the new government is cutting from everyone and we took 30k r efugees last year and expect more this year.
