<p>They have rolling coverage it seems of Lewis Hamilton visit to New Zealand! Hated the casino, and was seen driving a Prius!</p>

<p>So, when exactly the fuck, did New Zealand become such a fucking pathetic basket case of a country, than an F1 driver visiting on holiday deserved continual rolling coverage at the top 1-2 items on the online herald??</p>

<p>Based on what you hear of Lewis, maybe he turned up at SkyCity and didn't have people fawning over him, kissing his arse, which is why he considered he was treated like dirt...but yeh, is pretty embarrassing alright!</p>

<p>I actually read a copy the print edition (I know, right) of the Herald last year, and it was 90% less frivolous than their website. Apparently many newspapers are similar. The Guardian has just as much "right on" click-bait trash in it's print edition though.</p>

Case in point , they took the best part of a month to report the guy who threw sludge on Brownlee was convicted of possessing child porn . <p>Basically the guy did a burnout in the street in front of a few witnesses including an off duty cop , he tried to claim that the cops couldn't confiscate it because his wife needed it to drive around. They are separated and she has her own car, besides he's basically turned it into a road legal racer and he has it tied up in a family trust.</p>
<p>Like most people who think they are smarter than the authorities he isn't so they sold the car and are giving him whatevers left over.</p>

<p>It isn't actually a gt either, it's a south african model sold over there as a fairmont gt. People started importing them to nz and oz after they became aware of their existence via the internet as a cheap way of getting into a car that was close to a gt specs, they also had holdens with chevrolet badges and v8 powered ford capris over there along with cortina utes which we never got.</p> -

<p>Doesn't say , but it sounds like he was behaving like a moron in a built up area. It also says he has a button clutch, remember this is the car he reckoned his wife dropped the kids off to school in. </p>

<p>There was a guy in Taranaki who lost his mercedes the same way a few years back, they are very strict on burnouts and street racing now .</p> -
I don't think so, if it is a charge under the 'boy racer' legislation then they can take the car on a single offense. <br><br>
For them to be charged and lose the car, the evidence musta been pretty good, I dealt with a claim a few years back where a Car Was impounded because of the same thing, but this guy got off due to lack of evidence, it was alleged to be someone else...unluckily for him, his car was stolen from the impound yard.... -
<p>I read the other day that in this guy's case the "sustained loss of traction" was witnessed in real time by an off duty cop who reported it immediately. No lack of evidence.</p>

<p>The Lewis Hamilton thing is interesting isn't it? As you say TR, he was caught doing donuts in his team-supplied C63 Merc in Melbourne. The rozzers impounded his car. The car actually sold for more than it was worth new as a result of its notoriety. By all accounts he is a very competent rider as well and I suspect his reaction times are a bit faster than the average duck face selfie Instagrammer (not that that excuses actually doing it of course).</p>

<p>It reminds me of the story that emerged during the 1992 Grand Prix at Silverstone. Police stopped Ayrton Senna doing 125mph on the M4 west of London. The officer asked him "Who do you think you are, Nigel Mansell?". He was a bit indignant, but still got done. When he competed in the British Grand Prix he was actually a banned driver.</p> -

<p>I opened the Herald site last week and counted 4 separate stories on the Bachelor displaying on the front page, without even scrolling down. Without clicking on anything I closed it again in disgust.</p>
