Not sure this is right place for it, but Coon cheese, an 86 year old Aussie favourite, has been rebranded because of its ‘racist connotations’’.
Founded by Edward William Coon, but now called ‘Cheer’.
Brand name apparently after the founder. No racial connotations
Annoys me.
No worse than the rape victim called Cockburn.
Or a rapist
You know what they say - can't spell therapist without the rapist, nor manslaughter without laughter...

If I were Biden, I’d be inclined to pardon Trump.
It would be unexpected. And would give his most rabid supporters something to think about. And if that allows him to potentially run again that would see him remain as a potential nuisance for the GOP for the next 4 years. Very clever thinking....
-
@pakman Biden should have been an 'observer' in the Trump issues, he should have just been talking about what he is going to do to Unite the US, his plans for the future, Covid, jobs, trade etc, he shouldnt touch on the Trump issues as this just agitates Trumps hardcore supporters.
If asked, he could stand aside and say he is letting justice takes it's course, he has bigger things to focus on.
Sadly the Trump circus looks like it will roll on past inauguration day!

It wouldn't do much - it can't stop or affect the penalties from impeachment (that's in the constitution), and Trump is in more danger of state prosecution than federal (particularly New York State), so it doesn't do much there either.
On the other hand, genius as a symbolic gesture that achieves little.

Would be a seemingly magnanimous gesture that might make a few hardened Trumpites wonder what is going on

Or make them feel legitimate in their outrage? 🤔

I'm not at all down with a pardon for Trump. Surely that presidential right should be used to right a wrong, to end a punishment deemed to have been sufficiently meted out. Not for pure political gain. This would be up there with Ford/ Nixon.
Whether or not you think Trump should be impeached again, I fail to see any decent argument for giving the man a pardon.

You trump haters have elevated that bloke to being the most influential person in human history. Bigger than Caesar, Hitler and Grandin. You attribute God like qualities to the guy. Claims of brainwashing 70 million Americans, instigating wars that never happened, and the root of all things wrong with society. Your infatuation with him and the exaggerated effect he has on everyone is way overblown, with help from msm and social media business models.
He is exactly what he appears to be - a loud mouthed outsider in a political institution. He's not particularly frightening, would back down from every fight and was elected because of Hillary, not because of him.
All last year we witnessed 25 murders and billions of dollars permanent damage by Antifa, CHAZ, and BLM. Those of us malcontents who voiced the equivalent outrage were assured, sometimes scolded, that only a small minority of people were doing damage against a back drop of overwhelmingly peaceful protest. We wondered about Maxine Walters directly telling people to pester and punch republicans. We tutted as Pelosi stated "“I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be when people realize that this is a policy that they defend,” she said. “It’s a horrible thing, and I don’t see any prospect for legislation here.”
And now, when the boot is on the other foot, with a history of mass good natured Republican rallies, all of a sudden 70 million brainwashed people are vile threats to democracy after a few hours of absolute nonsense by a very few. Probably less than the people that stormed the courthouse during the Kavanagh inquest.
And the democrat response, when the whole country is begging for COVID aid, is to impeach a President with a week left in office.
America doesn't get better once Trump is gone. Non destructive BLM protesters are no different to non destructive Republican protesters.
70 million voters don't idolise Donald, they just fear what they've witnessed from the Dems over 4 years. They're going to get Kamala as President soon and that ruckus can't be blamed on Trump, but it will be. Everything bad will be blamed on motor mouth.Division has been fostered by popular media and the dems have used it as they needed. Now they have to keep distracting the people because there's very little substance to their policies. They've no one to demonise.
Life after Trump will see the dems and media desperately mentioning and trying to keep Trump in the spotlight. Censorship and identity politics will be rife and the yanks will have a worse life.

Nobody here claimed that.

🙄 It is actually possible to do two things at once. It'll be an improvement on the nothing.

JB announced a massive covid19 economic aid package some time before impeachment talk
Trump probably deserves to answer for inciting those rioters, and judging from the seismic shift in his language of late I wonder if he realises that he's crossed the line. Many of his own party's representatives certainly believe so

Trump voters not besmirched en masse? Tui billboard stuff
You can actually do hundreds of things at once, yet they never make the news for some reason.

Because the MSM are corrupt, I suppose?

🙂Not really sure who that was aimed at, but I assume it was a fun rant 😎
FWIW, I'm on record praising some of his actions as president, but mostly loathing the man he is. He lies at every turn, he boasts of sexualising assault, and he has zero respect for the office to which he was elected. Personal gain above all.
The upshot of my opinion, is that I simply don't think a man like that is worthy of a pardon
