@no-quarter That's a remarkable presentation of the data. Would be amusing if it was submitted to one of those infographics awards.

Embarrassing, just hope we don't medal in that event.Part of me wants zher to smash the comp to pieces, to highlight the ridiculousness.
Completely agree. Although part of me fears for the backlash of what will happen in other trans related discussions points should this happen. Thats one for the politics forum though.

There will be some huge Chinese, Russian or Bulgarian women who will lift more tin.
The Russians and Bulgarians didn’t win a single weightlifting medal in Rio.
At any rate, it’s ridiculous that she’s even a medal contender. How many sports other than maybe shooting or equestrian even have a 43 year old competing?

There wasn't a super heavyweight division in Rio. At the last World Championships in 2019 the top 3 were from China (x2) and Russia.
If you want a comparison, at the 2019 WC Hubbard's total was 285 kg and she finished 6th. The 3rd place getter lifted a combined 311 kg. The winner lifted 332 kg.

Only because you seem to do so yourself.

I’ll invent my own and then invent a sport to compete in.

There was really. That was the +75kg division. I think the woman who won gold medalled at the WC as well. Not a Bulgarian to be seen either 😜. Any idea what Hubbard’s latest lifts have been? In 2019 she would probably not have been 100% recovered from that serious injury at the Comm games.

@taniwharugby The top Chinese women is still competing. The same article says Hubbard is only ranked 15th.
Although she won a silver medal in the 87-plus kilogram weight class at the world championships four years ago, she is ranked 15th in her weight division according to IWF’s Olympic qualifications. Her best combined lift in 2020 was 270 kilos, a massive 55kg short of the world record set by China’s Li Wenwen in Tashkent two months ago.
@Rancid-Schnitzel I was just choosing a random Eastern European country. Belarus would have done too!
