@dogmeat said in Old people talk about the olden days:

@canefan @victor-meldrew My local Kebab shop still does crinkle cut fries in tall cartons and yes there is a lot of salt at the bottom.

If I have a few too many Hazy's the Kebab shop is right across from the bar. Lamb Doner with lots of chilli sauce and a side of fries completes the evening.

When I lived in Edinburgh I used to cook on Saturdays at a wine bar and would walk there in the morning basically doing the opposite walk to pissed punters from town the night before.
You could map how close to the kebab shop you were by the piles of stuff on the ground.
First there would be the vomited meat and sauce, then the pita a bit up the road. Little trails of lettuce would lead to discarded tomato......

@crucial UK kebabs are gross - and just what you (think you) need after a night out. I always used to get two and would invariably wake up with this soggy package of congealed fat and some sort of protein in my jacket pocket the next morning

    Sounds like a regretful pull.

I remember having a great kebab in Paris, and their savoury galettes were great too, like a big crepe cone of ham and cheesie deliciousness. And the gyros I had on Santorini were nek level kebabs, even had fries inside!!

@taniwharugby It was. I don't remember it at all but the punchline is pretty much in context with the majority of memes here

@dogmeat plenty of the IK ads back then were just silly ads with the jingle and not really relevant to what they were advertising...dunno if you recall the ad, but it wasnt milk the last time the guy stole what was in the bottle...

I guess you just mean old, rather than 1970s. Instant Kiwi wasn't around then.

You need to choose your kebab shops carefully. I think the best, and the worst, kebabs on the planet are in Britain.

I have only ever had the latter, though every time I was drunk enough to think they were the former

The simple mention of pineapple lumps has instilled in me a longing for Jet Planes and frozen Buzz Bars...

OK, getting solar power installed and have just been told there will be no VAT on the installation - zero, zilch, nada. This is an unexpected and considerable saving which will be spent on stocking the cellar or re-roofing the barn.

    I'm contemplating the former.
