Poor bloke, I can't imagine the pressure professional athletes are under, I think we like to glamourise it a bit and focus on what they get paid, but they are under immense pressure to perform every game. Being away from family etc etc. I hope he recovers and comes back stronger than ever.

Sounds like he's been well supported and Rennie is definitely someone that cares deeply about his players. I hope a bit of space and time helps Hooper work through things. The average bloke often struggles with sharing struggles and needing some support, so it's great to see a prominent athlete like Hooper (as @chimoaus noted) share that he is doing it tough. Hooper knows exactly what he wants/needs to bring to that environment. Says a lot about him to when he can identify that he's not in space to do that. All the best mate.

Though fully agree with the above sentiment, one has to wonder how (as an organisation, rather than the individual) you get to the day of the opening test on tour before this call gets made? I dont blame Hooper at all, there must have been symptoms before this point and somebody should have picked up on it. Had Hooper been coughing and running fever, nobody would have missed it before he flew half way around the world and was selected.

Regular mental check ups should be exactly the same as the physical checks these guys go through and calls should be made earlier than this.

And i really hate speculating, with all the noise around concussions i really really hope this has nothing to do with any physical damage he has suffered in his career.

Hope he makes a speedy recovery and well done for demonstrating that "pushing through" isnt the best course of action.

It's really really hard - people hide mental health from others as well as from themselves. Even head knocks are almost impossible to pick up if players don't disclose.

Hope Hooper sorts thsi as best he can. Tough times, well done to him for standing up.

A fair bit of jumping to conclusions and reading between the lines here. An alternate scenario that fits the narrative is actual family problems that are distracting him.
Either way I hope it works out well.

What kind of rubbish deal did RA do with 9.

The Wallabies' game against Argentina is not on free-to-air TV, with only home games and the Bledisloe covered by the Nine Network.

Hooper has simply run out of vocabulary for conducting post loss interviews.

Gone back to Australia to do some wordle and refresh.
