@Nepia has he been in THAT many other roles? i can think of a couple but nothing iconic

He's in a tv show I like called Miracle Workers and I've seen him in the odd movie. The magician one, and the one where he played a corpse. Apparently he's good in the Weird Al movie but I haven't seen it as it's on Roku.

Another one where it's kinda the same character.
But I think, for me, he's Seth Bullock - who was therefore excellent casting for Raylan.

Raylan for me as I watched Justified first.

    Eggert.

Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes - the definitive portrayal. So good you wonder whether other actors bothered to read the books.

They made a hash of the Magnum PI reboot, far too woke sounding for me. Tom Selleck is the only Magnum PI

And there is only one MacGyver

I've never seen that portrayal... and that image is nothing like I imagine the character from the books.

Pretty much regarded as definitive - except for the beak-like nose.

Edward Hardwicke's Watson was spot-on as well in portraying him as the hardened, intelligent veteran capable of mixing it with the tough guys and not averse to shooting people if needed.

That's his city attire. The rural attire might be what you re imagining. The deer stalker and all, which he does don when out in th country.

The other obvious test is Rambo or Rocky. It was Rambo for me.

Pretty incredible that Sly was able to front 2 massive franchises at the same time. Rocky all the way for me.

In terms of the definitive portrayal how about Batman?
West, Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale, Affleck or Patterson?

He also nailed the look for the time he was heavily using opium. As you say, the definitive Sherlock.

Bale. To me absolutely nailed the charisma/presence/physicality/charm……he was Batman. Keaton was surprisingly decent as was Kilmer. West was terrific fun in a different way. The rest were fucken awful
