Finally got to see Avatar. It's goood. I was a bit lukewarm at first, not sure I'd buy into the blue cat people thing but buy into it I did. Really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the sequel.

Number 1. movie of all time now, just passed Titanic at the world wide box office. <br />
Should do the same with the same in the North American domestic one as well.<br />
<br />
No doubt its been badly hurt by the scum who have been downloading it illegally <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> -
Just watched Defiance . Based on a true story . Pretty friggen heroic stuff . Really enjoyed it . 8/10

If you haven't seen Avatar - do so.<br />
Great movie - very stunning scenery all the way through it.<br />
Story is pretty good as well.<br />
<br />
Went to see it in 3D, didn't see the IMAX. IMAX theaters are solidly booked here - and have been since it opened. You need to book ahead for that. I thought the 3D effects were subtle as well. They added to the picture, rather than being a distraction.<br />
<br />
Took my kids to it - my son loved it, he's 9. Daughter who's 6 was surprisingly good at the movies. For a 2 1/2 hour movie - I thought she's be fussing up a storm by about half way - but she was pretty interested as well. -
Watched Hurt Locker last night and found it to be an intense war movie, almost anti-war. Highly recommended
<br />
<br />
Yeah I watched that last night, different type of film, almost a documentary following the main characters around for the remainder of thier rotation, with little story running through, still thought it was a top film though.<br />
<br />
The 3 'stars' of the film (Guy Pearce, Ralph Feinnes, Evangeline Lily) all have minute parts. -
"In the valley of Elah" (starring Tommy Lee Jones) is a good movie. <br />
<br />
It's not an action packed war movie but the story of a dad who goes investigating why his son, recently returned from Iraq, is found murdered near his base, in the USA.<br />
<br />
I'd put it in the `Gran Torino' genre. -
Watched the Adam Sandler flick "Funny People" last night. A more cumbersome but more apt title would be "People Being Horrible To Each Other"<br />
<br />
I knew it wasn't really a comedy before i watched it, but i wasn't preapred for how much of a downer it was, basically everyone in the film seems to spend most of the time trying to be an asshole to someone they are supposed to like. I was also bored. Untill Eric bana came on. he is awesome in his over the top occer role. <br />
<br />
I do not recommend. -
The Losers seems to be a bit like the A-Team. looks good though. Based on a comic book I think.<br />

I disagree - I thought it was a bloody good film. But in reality it's a drama, although agree about Bana - helped by the fact that everyone else really played the straight man around him (setting aside the stand up routines of course). -
I thought funny people was horriffic. It's not a comedy, it's not a drama, it's not even a decent story! Bana saves it totally. Even Rogen was boring in it which is something I never thought i'd say. And films of that genre are not supposed to be 160 mins long either!!<br />
<br />
Watched Old School after it, just to remind me what a classic film should be like. The Dan Band doing their version of Total Eclipse has me in stitches every single time! -

Drama's aren't supposed to be 160mins long? The fact that your are comparing it with Old School tells me you were expecting a comedy and it's clearly not. It's a film about stand up comics, and how shitty they are to each other (stealing jokes, etc)<br />
<br />
It wasn't awful, it was just good. I actually thought the film lost it's way when they did the Bana/old wife part of the plot. If they had just stuck to the friendship part they could have had better ending. I enjoyed the film, and it was nice to see Rogan do something different, am looking forward to his Green Hornet. -
Looking up the film on the internet databases (imdb, rotten tomatoes etc) they all market it as a comedy (some do have comedy/drama) - hence why I watched it! And who includes Sandler & Rogen on their billing when they are looking to do a serious drama?<br />
<br />
I agree with you that the plot lost it's way when Bana & wife come into play, but his acting out was the only thing that saved it for me. I guess it's all about expectations - if they had gone for different actors and hadn't gone out of their way for people to think it's a comedy, I probably wouldn't have even bothered to watch it.<br />
<br />
Your right I probably shouldnt' compare it to old school, as it's not really a comedy - but thats the way they marketed it. -
Wouldn't be the first film to marketed terribly (lazily?), I remember that Hancock was a far better film than the marketing spiel for it.<br />
<br />
And it was a comedy drama, just, as it was about stand up comedians after all. The emphasis was on the drama that's all. Worth remembering that in most cases the actors and directors have no say in how the film gets marketed, that's bastards like Mogwai I believe... -
The Road, Viggo Mortenson and Charlize Theron<br />
<br />
Post-apocolyptic film with Mortenson and his son treking to the coast, struggling to find food and avoid being food as some people have degenerated to cannibalism, while Mortenson battles his own demons as his wife walked out on him and his son to die.<br />
<br />
Sitting there watching last night I was thinking it was about a 6/10, but on thinking over the movie, I did actually like it, 7.5/10. -

The Invention of Lying; Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, the young fat guy from superbad, Rob Lowe<br />
<br />
Gervais lives in a world where there is no lying, people always say the truth, until one day when in the bank and thier computers are down, he wants to withdraw all his money, and they ask him how much he has in his account.....<br />
<br />
started off quite well, loads of amusing little chuckles, got a bit lame in the middle before getting back to some chuckles at the end. <br />
<br />
6.5/10 -
Saw Precious. An incredibly hard movie to watch. Similar to Once Were Warriors in that sense. A little clumsy in places but well acted across the board, though the use of Lenny Kravitz as a male nures was a little "look at who in my movie". He doesn't really add to much. Positive male figure for sure but a bit stereotypical.<br />
<br />
Not a lot to come away with feeling good about but still the performances are outstanding from the 2 main stars.
