@chchfanatic How could you play classics if you were billeted by Doug Howlett as a 14 year old? Does Canterbury have an extremely young classics age limit? Pretty impressive to play against both Jock and Isaac Ross.
Me, only Daniel Lee and Roger Randle played with and Taine Randell against that I can think of.

Played against Mark Carter and Dallas Seymour (7’s count don’t they). Also played against Tony Iro, who used me as door mat on his way to his 3rd try.
Almost played against a young Jonah Lomu at a Bank tournament. We were all shitting ourselves as he was turning out for ASB, but he wasn’t allowed to play as he had just been selected for the NZ Baabaa’s. we still got smashed though

@nepia sorry I can see how that doesn’t seem right. I was 20-21 and invited to play. They used to always have a couple of young players on both teams. Must’ve been either 2000 or 2001 in ashburton. Was a great bus ride back to chch.

Dallas was also a proper AB. 1992 he toured South Africa, and maybe a replacement on the Aussie tour before that when we went through about 13 loose forwards.

Memory failing me a bit right now.
With: Thrush, Waldrom, Weepu.
Against: Waldrom, Tiatia, Collins, So'oialo, Nonu, Lauaki, Masoe, Jane.There's probably more but everyone was so much better than me it was hard to tell the difference between AB and club player. I'm still scarred by Jane, made me look like an absolute invalid.

As I am French, I will be a bit off topic. I have played with the following French international players : Gerard Cholley (he was already old but came for a varsity game to lend us a hand), Jean-François Gourragnes and Dominque Erbani (the latter in an Oldies game).

Allblacks v Victoria , the score was a hundred and something to very little , and kirwan made him look stupid .
He was so excited beforehand then it turned into a nightmare .

If that was the game at Olympic Park in 88, I was there. After the game the ABs hung around and met some of the fans. I got autographs from Wheaton and Botica.

I think it’s the other way around Spice never made it off the bench and Duggan played in the 3/4 playoff in 1999. There’s a team photo of them before the game and all of them look completely and utterly dejected....except for Duggan who has an ear to ear grin on his face as if to say “ I don’t give a fuck if it’s a 3/4 playoff , I’m an all black”. Which is exactly how I would feel in his situation.
