Better looking team, but not enough to upset the Crusaders juggernaut.

That Crusaders team looks more like something they would put out against one of the weaker overseas team rather than for a NZ derby. Hope they are not underestimating the Chiefs.

I don't know him; I only know that he's been training with the Crusaders since the beginning of preseason as a replacement player. Via google I've found out he's played NPC for Otago in 2014, 2017 and 2018, although he was not named in the squads for 2017 and 2018. Maybe he was added to the squad later?

@Duluth no comeback. Not ideal really. But from what I was told there’s a reason he was discharged without conviction. If he didn’t beat his missus then not sure why he got a fine.

When Reece was spotted training with the Crusaders during pre-season, assistant coach Brad Mooar said he'd "done a lot of work around the incident", and the team had done their due-diligence in identifying it as a behavioral matter, rather than a character trait.

Robertson echoed Mooar on Thursday, and confirmed Reece was in-line to have his contract upgraded as a full-time replacement for Manasa Mataele, whose season is over after he blew out his knee against the Hurricanes last month.

"I've never had any concerns, that's the first thing," Robertson said. "He's been through that process with the incident, he was fully cleared and he's come down here.

"I don't think there's a guy that's worked harder in our group. Extremely humble and glad that we can play a part in his life and help him be the best he can."

Actually stoked about this lineup. Glad Stevenson is out and Alaimalo is back. Nankivell should have had the nod in the midfield but at least he's benched. Feeling slightly confident.

Yeah - a pretty friendly selection by Razor. I'd say only six first choice starters in the starting XV - though a bit of cavalry on the bench. Not really twisting the knife into the Chiefs though - more leaving the door open. On paper, that Chiefs team looks a decent shot - though the TAB has them at $4.70. Haven't really watched the Chiefs games so far to work out whether that's as generous as it seems.

I'm a bit surprised that someone like George Bridge is subject to AB resting protocols. Presumably Mitchell Drummond is, as well?

I read somewhere that Bridge is also expected to appear at the one-day and three-day AB foundation camps, whenever they may be. Haven't read the same about Drummond; they may just have decided to give him a rest, because he was so terrible last week.

I'd be interested to know whether Hansen has cherry-picked people from last year's "Japan-selection" for R&R or whether everyone in that selection is subject to the protocols. Indications so far seem like there might be cherry picking.

Should be pretty easy to check who, from those players, has been rested without obvious reasons

You're not wrong. Or for a preaseason game. But the following players are all unavailable: Perry, Whitelock, Todd, Read, Hunt, Mataele and Dagg. Does Bridge also have to have time out due to his AB status??
