Oh I know, just a general comment.
I suspect there will be legal restrictions on that soon. Just being cautious.
Yep, with all the online activity involved in the massacre we have erred on over moderating the thread.
As the facts firm up, then more of political discussion will be allowed again too.
On the way home I called into gun city, they said after the Vegas shooting all the branches got hate mail and people calling them up and abusing them over the phone. They are bracing themselves for the reaction to this since it happened here, the guys who are usually pretty easy to chat with didn't want to talk today and looked stressed out as fuck.

With the cricket called off I think other sporting events this weekend will be postponed or cancelled too.
I hope not, don't want terrorist stopping our sports - although I can fully understand why the cricket test match is being cancelled.
I totally agree Neps but the police will probably make the call on that, depending if there are other sickos still on the run.

Yeah, avoid giving them that power if possible.
I lived in the US during 9/11 and the aftermath, and it really had a big negative effect on peoples lives and outlook. Don't want to see that happen in NZ.
They were at the mosque earlier weren't they, we pulled the pin on tour to Sri Lanka when a bomb went off in the hotel the black caps were staying at .

@jegga yeah mate's dad who is pretty big on the hunting scene reckons there'll be a lot of anger against guns/gun owners and expect to see lots of semi-autos banned.
Yep, also a gun register. It doesn't bother me as I've never liked semi autos but I suspect my mate who bought a bushmaster last month is sussing out a hiding place as we speak.
I'm sure wherever he bought the guns from is dreading the day it becomes public knowledge.

To store guns, I thought you were meant it registered with the local cops? Or is it just about having a safe?
I know that when my uncle died, they were over within a day to pick up his firearms (edit: and they knew how many there were and what they were). To legally get a license and store firearms nowadays is pretty hard - my old man had to get a very expensive new safe when he moved into the new house.
No doubt there will be some discussion about it, but we should wait to find out whether these firearms were sourced legally or not. If he/they were licensed, I imagine it will get very very difficult to get a license now.
-
I consider the gun availability to be a secondary issue. Weve got excellent gun control laws.
Nutjobs will always access guns.
It'd be a shame to focus on secondary issues ad infinitum, as important info like semi auto vs auto weapons will be conflated
Picking up nutjobs in the first place strikes me as a primary issue. Police detection and id of these groups needn't be in the public eye.

The need for a safe depends of your firearms officer, some will let you chain your rifle to the hotwater cylinder some let you keep it in a wooden cupboard with a padbolt . As you said it's already very difficult to get a licence, I imagine e cat is probably going to be next to impossible soon .
Actually registering your firearms with the police is still optional, I never have. -
Christ, that's very different to my father's experience. I doubt that our laws and gun availability is the issue here.
Pretty harrowing interview being broadcast on BBC right now - some poor old lady who tried to help an injured person. Says she's 66 and never imagined something like this happening in NZ.

Shit the msm spout some hyperbole and bullshit when something like this happens (major live incident)
Tv3 newsreader taking about our long history of mass shootings, fuck off.
The States suffer through more mass shootings in a week then what we have had the last 50 years. This looks to be an Australian who wanted to make as much of an impact by carrying this out in a country not associated which such an horrific crime.

Thats exactly what he wanted

My uncle is all over the Australian coverage. They arent censoring info apparently, but sounds like there is good reason to keep doing that in nz. Def until we are sure there arent further active cells.
