A poster there makes a fantastic point, i.e. the enormous difference between the online Twitter world and the real world. On the internet, you'd think thr world was going to shit, but the vast majority of people aren't this polarised and are just keeping their heads down trying to get through the day and survive/enjoy life.
One of the biggest failures in political/commercial decision-making is this deluded view that vile Twitter mobs are representative of the population or consumers at large. That simply isn't true. They are about as representative as the fanatics who used to write multiple letters to the editor back in the day.
Twitter mobs aren't representative of anything other than twitter mobs. Idiots who commune together to be idiots.
Yeah, I need to remind myself of that. When I see the most retarded tweets you can imagine get 200k likes, it's still not a big number of people in the greater scheme of things.
-
Yeah, the thing is - and this is a big thing - is that most of them are actually throwing weight behind a decent sort of cause / movement. The sort of thing that does genuinely have a good, fair and decent purpose behind it.
But then they get hysterical over some stupid shit which doesn't add weight to the movement, but is more likely to turn people against it. The latest classic case in point, for me, is good old Piers again, who told a black professor that he found his accusations about racist Britain absurd.
Enter twitter mob ... "this is typical white man splaining, and black people don't need white people thank you very much do tell them how they feel, and they certainly don't need it from such a racist as Piers". All because he said
"if you don't like it here, why don't you live somewhere else"
Case in point - racism in Britain is a fair topic, (although I think many have actually forgotten what racism actually means as I would say the open mindedness about race, sexual orientation etc in this country is pretty forward thinking), and it's fair to discuss. But the twitter mob's view just makes me turn off them completely.
And that ain't fair to the genuine people with real race related situation. (Diane Abbot exempted, obviously).
I do sometimes wonder if I'm @Rembrandt perhaps 3-4 years ago ...

The Jamie Kilstein interview on Rogan is pretty enlightening about twitter mobs . Itâs worth a listen just to understand the mentality behind them . He was right in there ruining the hashtag of the days life until he became the hashtag of the day and they ruined his life.

I watched a Rubin interview with a guy called Coleman Hughes last night. He made the (good) point that in terms of racism we are at a point of diminishing returns. Discrimination based on race is illegal, and the majority of people are simply not racist anymore.
So we're at the point now where activists are trying to force some Utopian view they have of humanity on to everyone - that everybody should be morally virtuous and we should expel all evil from humanity. It's just not going to happen, there will always be bad people around, and it's getting to the point that the activism trying to stamp it out is having a big cost on society, particularly when it comes to peoples freedom.
-
@no-quarter a great part of that interview was likening racism to smallpox and that racism ( even thoughts and private conversation) can be totally eradicated from society like smallpox has been. The left narrative thinks all racism can be " cured".
Wrong approach.

You got an example?
Not wishing to be provocative mate but after years of wistful nodding that systemic racism exists in the West, I'm wondering where this smoking canon is.
Actually I'd like to know, almost hope to see examples of real racism to validate the narrative, so I know I'm not being blindly contrarian

Totally agree with this mate. Seems almost like something you have to say because it's the done thing. The desperate and psychotic attempts to find and even redefine racism would be a pretty good indication that racism is barely on life support in most of the West. Judging by the banter between my son and his very multicultural group of friends, the word racism is fast becoming a big joke.

Every time my kids say the word black or white, one of them instantly calls the other racist. They are 7 and 9, and apparently it is a 'thing' at school to do this.
I quite like it so play along. -

I quite like it so play along.Yep, but not just that. If one accuses the other of anything, for example forgetting to bring something, they will accuse the other of racism.
My eldest also has an ongoing banter with one of my best mates (who is Malaysian Chinese). My mate often lightly teases him and my son always responds with accusations of racism. They both find it hilarious.

You do help make my point for me here, although Iâm not naive enough to say no racism exists in the west
A good example is in City of London there are people who research why so few African /Caribbean ppl hold senior positions. These guys arenât looking for racism, they are looking for cultural things. But the twitter mob jump on the stats like rabid dogs and go nuts.
They think they are raising awareness, but instead are just turning ppl off

Gold!
However I do wonder if we might be getting to the point where actual occurrences of racism are ignored because of so many fake examples.
Same too with #metoo mania. At this point a woman claiming sexual assault could mean anything from 'regretting sleeping with an uggo', 'drunk but consensual', 'I found out he was a republican', 'he didn't want to date me anymore', 'an awkward teenage boy going in for a kiss and being denied'- right through to actual assault and rape. No one is winning in this situation.

Todayâs âKanye visits the Oval Office and drops mother-eff bombsâ is melting down the puritanical snowflakes on CNN and MSNBC. The libs cannot stomach any of it. Itâs hilarious. Theyâre calling him âmentally ill,â a âwhite negro,â a âminstrel show for whites,â and a âwhite supremacist.â Kid Rock and Jim Brown (still the greatest NFL player of All-Time) (âMake sure when anyone tackles you he remembers how much it hurtsâ) were also hanging out.

It is apparent that those stations hate nothing more (including Trump even) than a black that goes off the script.

We must be at cross purposes.
I agree with the banality of Twitter mobs.
You said "and that ain't fair to the people with real race related situation", which I took to mean real racial issues in the West.
What examples are there of these real race related situation?
For instance in Thailand there is definite systemic racism against Karen and Rohingya people (among others). They get denied basic rights due solely to their ethnicity.
As I said, happy to be wrong but apart from individual preferences, what's the concrete evidence for real systemic racism?
It's trotted out like it's obviously everywhere -

Tucker Carlson is on it. His lead story tonight:
-
I'm sure the same people questioning KW's sanity were hammering him when he accused GGeorge Bush of hating black people during a programme to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina? Or not.
By the same token, I'm sure plenty of Republicans who rubbished West back then are now embracing him. Plenty of hypocrisy to go around.
At the end of the day the guy is a farking fruitloop. But certain people sure seem threatened by him.

It's trotted out like it's obviously everywhereWe aren't poles apart. I generally think most people that do race related research / comparisons have their heart in the right place and do a good thing. What I'm talking about is when twitter mobs jump on this work and start splashing their ridiculous ideologies over it.
You do raise a great point though. The "west", being white countries, pretty much so take all the flak and criticism over racism ... yet, Asia, is far and away the most racist place on the planet. Alot of countries have laws written on racial lines, which are always detrimental to immigrants.
Can you imagine the outcry of Britain or the US did that?
