So what is everyone's plans for the final?

After a few very quiet mornings watching rugby by myself with only the company of my London mates via viber I've decided to head down to Wellington to try and find some atmosphere with some old Uni mates

I know I no longer have the staying power of an all-nighter so my current strategy is stay at my cousins caravan in Paraparaumu Saturday night, go to be early, wake up 3am, drive into town and have a few pre-drinks and then hopefully make a day of it Sunday, and then driving back to New Plymouth Monday.

If anyone has any bar recommendations that would be awesome, ideally somewhere with like minded rather than legless fans, enough space, good view for a TV and a bar that doesn't require 15 minutes queuing time to get a drink. Surprised there is no fan zone set up.

I was hoping for fan zones this time around too, I remember a few years ago there was talk of being able to view a test at the movie theatre too. How good would it be to sit in the gold lounge with a beer and watch the rwc final?

Wellington should be pretty busy though, might pay to suss out if some of the venues want you to book first or something.

I will be watching at home, 3am kick-off here. Got a few (mostly single) mates who are planning a huge night, but I (a) don't have the stamina anymore, and (b.) want to watch it with my 6yr old who I think is more nervous than I am.

If we win, I will be cracking the champagne at 5am, and seeing where my Sunday takes me...

Welly locals will know better than me but Hotel Bristol, Four Kings and The Green Man are pubs I know can be good in town for footy?

Like Voodoo 3am here in Sydney - I'll be watching with my brother/sister in law at their place. It worked last week - let's keep it rolling. Last week with a 2am kickoff it was hard enough to get to sleep after - an hour later this week whatever the result it will be enough tougher to get to sleep after I feel. Hard liquor might be required either way I feel.

so, what time is kick off in NZ (so i can work back and get the kick off here), is it 4 or 5?

It being Aus v NZ, most of my mates want to do something for it, but like Voodoo, going right through is pretty tough. Plus, i watched the semi with some friends and didn't enjoy it, i felt like i should be a bit more impartial, when really i wanted to rant at the TV. Plus i felt like i should have pants on...

I guess the big question is, after we win, what is an acceptable time to start getting drunk? Not sure i am ready to explain to my kids why i am having beer for breakfast...

5am NZT. I thought about having people over but they would probably wake up the kids and as it is I will be poor company if we aren't doing well. I will be hiding in my underground lair, living and dying with the rest of the tragics online on TSF. If we win perhaps I will venture out in the car to buy a bag full of celebratory sausage and egg Mcmuffins....

They're putting it on at IMAX here in Sydney - largest screen in the world I'm told by wikipedia - and taking up roughly one-third of the size of a rugby field, I guess it just might be:

Were we in the same room last week? I watched last week with a Saffa from my work, and it was killing me to stay restrained. Any while I did have shorts on, my English mate next to me was wearing only y-fronts. It was kind of disturbing.

Midnight in Hongkie. Get together with some kiwis probably around 10pm after Halloween festivities done, smash a couple of drinks, then smash another 10 pints during the game as the nerves get to me.

then either kick off in a big way around 1:45am or go home with the phone off dreading the next few days.

Midday kick off here in Canada. No food, no drink - not by choice but two days out from a tonsillectomy it just can't happen. This should ensure I will be even more insufferable than usual both watching the game and on the fern.

It's such a fucken pain that it's at 5am and not 7 or 8. During the 99 WC mates and I would think nothing of drinking all night either at a flat or on Courtney Place and then tapering off a wee bit as the games approached. Have tried to organise a really early brekky but I'm having fuck all luck so will watch with the boys if they get up.

Reminds me of a while back, got on the bash early went home with burgers to watch a SA ABs test. Was watching the boys line up for the haka, the mist descended, next thing I woke up with the credits rolling. No mysky in those days 😞

So roads will be closed from as early as 2 am. Be aware of this. You can find details of road closures at the following website.

We've won 2 world cups, I was too young to drink for the first one, so it's a rare enough event to have beer for breakfast.

I watched the quarter and semi, alone in my apartment but with a Facebook chat with some mates in NZ and at the games. I went to bed early and set the alarm both times, clearly no show of getting sleep afterwards. I contemplated heading out, or even going to London but after much thought, I will stick to a winning formula, can't change things up this late in the tournament.

So I'll set the alarm for 1:30am or so to give me at least 90 minutes to be fully with it. The only minor change I may make is a beer or 2 for the nerves. If we win, I'll turn that into a beer or 10 and head to meet up with some mates, if we lose I'm not sure what happens. Sleep will be unlikely, so it could be a long tired, grumpy day.

Sometimes I wonder why I do this to myself, and wish that I didn't care so much...but that's just hedging. It will absolutely be worth it if I get to drink all day Sunday.
