Coles (if he's playing well) or AS.

Is Luke Jacobson Maori? Might be his only shot at higher honours this year.

So who’s captain if not Cane?

He’s getting outplayed week to week by Dalton. Ardie Savea?

    God fuck no

Smith, with Coles or whitelock taking over when he's subbed

@Bones Do you think Smith will still be fast enough to start at halfback after another 18 months?

    @Kirwan or Whitelock

    Probably the safest pick

A loose head (can scrum.and run)
    ST
    Ofa
    Lord
    Whitelock
    Akira
    Cane
    Sotutu
    Smith
    Barrett
    Clark
    RYS
    RI
    Reece
    Jordan

    Coles
    A Hodgeman
    A tight head
    T Vaa'i
    A Savea
    Christie
    Mounga
    J Barrett

Cane over Papalii only because we need a bit of experience in the pack, and his form to experience quotient is the highest

If we are wedded to individual brilliance to win games, pick the individuals with brilliance
And we're gonna run and bash things.

Good selection, but I wouldn't have RTS (assume you made a typo) in the team until he has a few more games under his belt. Be good to have him in the squad though to get experience as he seems a real prospect.

I think Foster will go with Goodhue at 12 and QT as backup. Agree with Cane, though it's a bit hard on Papalii, as we seem to play better with a fully-firing Sam.

Morgan Parra and Ruan Pienaar are two players that immediately come to mind as being able to play halfback and 1st 5. However, they are halfbacks who can play in another position, not the other way around. We've talked before about converting loose forwards into hookers but that process started once those players left school so they learnt the nuances of the new position before playing pro rugby.

Freddy Michalak was very good at both positions also.

I flirted with that idea but then had Taine Randall flashbacks.

Let’s not forget the postman either, Wellingtons own Jon Preston. Always delivered ( just like Gavin Larsen, the other Postman )

The one-two punch that could ignite the All Blacks attack

Two emerging halfbacks could prove crucial to the future success of the All Blacks.

Agree with the main point of that rugbypass article that it's time to get some new blood in at halfback

    Smith, Christie & someone new

Time to move on from TJ & Weber

On pure current form, the AB team could be :

    De Groot
    ST
    Ofa T
    Sangster
    Lord
    Ioane
    Papali'i
    Sotutu
    Ratima
    Perofeta
    Clarke
    TUJ
    Ioane
    Jordan
    Barrett

Sub : Eklund, Ross, Newell, Vaa'i, Savea, Fakatava, Mo'unga, B. Sullivan

Too many youngsters in there, so it won't happen, of course.

And there are plenty of tests left to develop that 3rd halfback before the RWC, and beyond 2023.
