The lowest of the low. WTF is wrong with some people?

Stay safe all, I felt it all the way up in Aucks which is insane given its location. That's a serious shake.

@Virgil you would hope that someone finds those people and administers a well-deserved hiding.

I couldn't believe it when I read it was centred in the SI. I'm central NI and my whole house was shuddering and creaking for a full minute.

Hope everyone down Ta$man/Chch way are ok.

Mokey, can you assure us that activity at home was actually quake related!! Not a new... umm book release!!?

It was pretty gnarly but kind of smooth rather than the really jerky/jarring quakes we sometimes get. Super strong though and it lasted for too long! Folks are out in Paekak and strong quakes on sand will give you motion sickness! neighbour almost wore a tsunami from Dad's pool!

It shook for ages which really got me.

I'm almost certain it's all Donald Trumps fault.

@MN5 Not joking, but there are actually comments on the herald saying it's the governments fault.

Don't worry - Richie McCaw is on the way in breaking news. Like Maui slowing down the sun, Richie will tunnel his way to the centre of the earth to fight the earthquake Gods.

No wait - he is just flying a helicopter.

If anyone can find his way to suddenly appear on the other side of a landslide, it's probably Richie.

Maybe he can stop that super moon from causing havoc, too. Expected tonight. There are all sorts of severe weather warnings from Metservice.

Thinking of all those badly affected. That was a bad one, or maybe I should say two.

M7.5 Kaikoura Quake: What we know so far

Not enjoying these aftershocks either. Just had a 6.2.
Just finished cleaning up the mess. Don't want to start all over again.

@Stargazer the moon caused the quakes!

Hate how the media jump all over that story about McCaw and focus on him when I doubt he wants the focus given there are hundreds of others doing similar.

I'd go with faultlines and tectonic plates, but the moon is easier to hurl abuse at I suppose.
