It would be fair to say that Tamanivalu is in the half I'm not particularly fond of.

Kinda shit that he's now lost to intl rugby. If he starts killing it in Europe, I can almost guarantee the talk of he should be able to play for Fiji.

@majorrage when he was capped, I actually thought he'd be one of those players that got a solitary cap, and probably shouldn't have ever been...as it was he got 3 (assuming he wont get another)

Not as easy to slide into the Fiji 7s team to reclaim nationality either.

this can go in here....as it does sort of show the community sprit that still exists in rugby.

There are some doozies in here.

#2, I will never forgive Mitchell for his treatment of Cullen, and his omission in the 2003 RWC squad. He was arguably the best 15 that S12 season or if not he was a close run 2nd to Mils, bung knees and all

#3 The story about Wayne Bennett is a classic ending to a shambolic campaign

The Bennett story is particularly funny given he won the Grand Final the year with Hodges, and Hunt out of their preferred positions and Lockyer was converted from a fullback a year or so earlier.

Won the 2000 final with Mr Utility Shaun Berrigan at 7 too.

In hindsight carrying Carter with the knowledge he would at best make it 40 minutes was the only major selection blunder that day IMO.

Yeah a couple of them completely ignore the context ie. Injuries to multiple players.

The rule should not be changed. Ever. The only advantage I could see is that it would lower the wage bill. But I don't think it would make the ABs any stronger if overseas players could be selected. There might be better rugby players available to the coaches, but with the logistics and all the rest that go with it, I doubt the team itself would be any better.

Paul is really in hyper-agressive mode these days, though - I don't really think calling them the "Maori All Blacks" or the "All Blacks Sevens" has partly killed off the ABs.

I totally agree with Gregor Paul, it would be pure madness as we would see tens of ABs or future ABs leaving the country. See what happened to Brazilians in soccer. They have lost their aura and aren't feared any more. Their national team is far from being above the others now. And what about Super Rugby ? The NZ derbies would look like Mitre 10 Cup games !

THe ONLY change I'd make to the eligibility rules (if there was one to be made) would be around allowing them to select players playing in an Aus or SA super team, but I'd only allow those who have a min of say 10 caps the option.

@taniwharugby I disagree given what appears to be the quality of their coaching.

Yep, coaching generally not as good at the moment, but woudl you exclude someone? Frees up someone like Adam Thompson to play for the Reds, but still be available for All Blacks

@antipodean given the quality of some of the NZ coaches over the years, didn't hinder players then is that really so much of a big deal?

The only issue would be these AB camps they are having which would probably be a roadblock with other Unions.
