@RaGe_X And to think - with Argentina playing a Lions-less-England, and SA playing France... it's not unlikely you could drop to 9th.
Too late for the WC draw, luckily - but still... not cool.
It's actually not too difficult to come up with a reasonably-realistic scenario of results where SA sinks to 10th... which would be fucking sad for the entire "rugby world".

It's getting to the point I would support playing a rebel Springbok side. No place for racism in sport.

@TeWaio said in One in a row .... seventeen in a row ...:

If we're to go purely by the world rankings then you would also have to consider the rankings of both England and NZ and then takes those rankings away to get a net score.

    In which case:-

Now they've equaled our streak, it is possible to compare the world ranking of the opposition at the time of each game, to determine whose streak is "better".

The sum world ranking of the 18 teams we defeated is 120. England's is 131.

So our streak was vs significantly better opposition on average - as I tell my dickhead pom mates who keep bringing up the fact we played Namibia/Georgia during ours, and conveniently forgetting they played Uruguay during theirs.

England's winning streak (October 15, 2015 to March 11, 2017) England ranking in bold
    1 - Uruguay (19) 60-3 (RWC) 8
    2 - Scotland (9) 15-9 8
    3 - Italy (12) 40-9 6
    4 - Ireland (8) 21-10 6
    5 - Wales (4) 25-21 6
    6 - France (8) 31-21 4
    7 - Wales (5) 27-13 2
    8 - Australia (2) 39-28 2
    9 - Australia (2) 23-7  2
    10 - Australia (4) 44-40 2
    11 - South Africa (4) 37-21 2
    12 - Fiji (10) 58-15 2
    13 - Argentina (9) 27-14 2
    14 - Australia (3) 37-21 2
    15 - France (8) 19-16 2
    16 - Wales (5) 21-16 2
    17 - Italy (14) 36-15 2
    18 - Scotland (5) 61-21 2 Total 62

    Sum 131. - 62 = net score 69

All Blacks' winning streak (August 15, 2015 to November 4, 2016) NZ No 1 all the way through so 18 in total
    1 - Australia (3) 41-13
    2 - Argentina (8) 26-16 (RWC)
    3 - Namibia (20) 58-14 (RWC)
    4 - Georgia (15) 43-10 (RWC)
    5 - Tonga (12) 47-9 (RWC)
    6 - France (7) 62-13 (RWC)
    7 - South Africa (3) 20-18 (RWC)
    8 - Australia (2) 34-17 (RWC)
    9 - Wales (6) 39-21
    10 - Wales (6) 36-22
    11 - Wales (6) 46-6
    12 - Australia (4) 42-8
    13 - Australia (4) 29-9
    14 - Argentina (7) 57-22
    15 - South Africa (4) 41-13
    16 - Argentina (7) 36-17
    17 - South Africa (3) 57-15
    18 - Australia (3) 37-10

    Sum 120.- 18 = 102

Rugby: All Blacks v England - Which winning streak is better?

Or in other words, such comparisons are pretty meaningless.

@Catogrande yep, we only played teams ranked lower than us, so that alone made our run easier 😉

Best outcome, IMO is if Ireland roll England this week, they sit on 18 with us, Ireland get a boost as giant killers again, NZ an England continue to roll on winning until they meet sometime in 2025 to win the best in the universe title.

Again thought I'd dust this off as NZ nows sits on 3 in a row poised to go to 13 by the end of this year.

All we need is to go unbeaten v the Lions, sweep the Bled and Rugby Championship, and just turn up to Europe on the EOYT.

    Easy.

time to dust off this perennial favorite
By my calculations, if the All Blacks do another calendar year 100% wins, they'll be on 17 in a row on 25.11.2018.
They will deserve a lot of plaudits if so....beaten France, Aus, South Africa, Ireland, England along the way.
    What are the odds?

That's the kindest thing a Cantab has ever said to me.

    Tearing up a bit here.

Come now... surely a Cantab has told you "you've got a reeeal purdy mouth" at least once?
Perhaps on a canoe trip? With Burt Reynolds?

We get that you lot don't find the concept disturbing, don't turn it back on us being the ones in the wrong.
