@Donsteppa I really don't think David Warner will be "welcomed" back anywhere.

If they take Bancroft, how would you fancy him and Warner in the same team?

Watching their running between the wickets together would be worth the price of admission.

I think they'll welcome him back if the team aren't scoring many runs, M Marsh having already been booed at the MCG being a sign of interesting times...

I think they’ll roll the carpet out for Warner. Their top order is screaming for him.

Bancroft is an interesting one. His ban ended today and he’ll be back playing Big Bash tomorrow. His position in the test side prior to the ban was already being questioned as his form was iffy. I doubt he’ll be straight back in.

Finch isn’t an opener, but I think he will be given a shot in the middle order at the SCG.

    @ACT-Crusader who is "they"?

The selectors might be keen to pick Warner. I have my doubts, since he was toxic even without the sandpaper thing.

Will the players welcome him though? Would you want him in your team?

Will the public? What happens when he crosses the line again (or rather, has the line moved so he doesn't cross it, because he's Australian)?

I'm 99% sure the AB selectors would tell him he was never required again.

Kohli comes across impressively in interviews. Seems a very smart operator - can see why he has had a good deal of success as a captain.

There will be pressure on the selectors to choose him given they will lose a home series to India. The public might not like him but the same public know he can score runs and unless the coaches are willing to come out and say publicly that he is a disruptive influence and he’s not wanted, then his selection will be demanded given the top order struggles.

Are you going to make him open with Bancroft? Wasn't the whole idea that Australia was going to change their culture? That's all hot air if they turn around and pick Warner.

Here’s the talking points from the Aussie media manager:

“Time away from the game, he’s done some soul searching. David has accepted his punishment and the environment of this team under Justin.”

And don’t forget, if someone says a nasty thing to Davy he’s allowed to walk off the ground and take the bat and ball home with him.

If that happened in Test, I think you'd blow so hard that your house would collapse, shortly before your prostate.

He's a thin-skinned imbecile with a tremendous amount of batting talent. So the question is whether his employers value winning over his teammates hatred.

    Short-term win over long-term harm.

It's probably the most interesting story in cricket now, what happens when the bans are over?

Australia are desperate for top order talent, and these two guys are easily their best. When you are getting humbled at home, a couple of World XI players coming in is an easy fix.

But team dynamics is a huge thing, and unfortunately for the team, so is public perception. Does Smith come back as Captain? or is the limited but likable Paine retained? (his chat behind the stumps is fucking great). Do the players want Dave back? Do the public? Does Dave want to come back given the prevailing public attitude?

I think they'll both be straight back in, but Smith i doubt in leadership roles. And there will be pretty strong "good behaviour" bonds on both of them.

Surely they have to waltz straight back in....that Australian batting line up is Black Caps 1990s bad.

i pretty much said at the time they got suspended that losing to India at home would mean all was forgiven.

@mariner4life I believe the angry lesbian is further banned from captaincy for 2 more years and Mr Self awareness can never hold a leadership position. Think it was part of the original sentence

They'll both walk back in, but if they don't perform they'll be absolutely crucified. Ironically I think Bancroft is most tainted at the moment for opening old wounds right before the bans come to an end. Probably very unfair, but it's strange that he would open up about this now. On the other hand, doing the angry dwarf's bidding seriously derailed his career.

The more I look at it the more I realise that Aussie cricket is analysed and covered in Australia to such a massive degree that it will never be issue or controversy free.

The coverage and exposure surrounding Aus cricket leaves nothing unturned or uninvestigated . Every interview comment is scrutinised, and hollow, ratings confession interviews that serve no positive outcome, click bait everywhere

The noise surrounding this team is ridiculous, everything, (fucken open mic comedy night behind the stumps is the latest "noise") is played out on the public stage.

Only winning quells the noise, and even then only a bit.

It's all a bit surreal for me, fuck knows how players can relax
