Jesus..back in civilisation after a weeks holiday, even with my self enforced embargo avoiding all things news and politics for a week I still got notified late Friday via message from my family. Haven't read into everything yet but damn I'm scared. The ripple effect from each of these 100+ victims from this senseless violence will be felt by society for years. I see media are happily throwing fuel on the fire and authorities are gearing up to make hamfisted knee-jerk decisions. I worry about revenge attacks from equivalent crazies in other camps and then revenge attacks on those revenge attacks. I hope we don't just run blindly into the reality that this terrorist desired to achieve his goals...but I also don't know how things can be turned around and this madness just stopped in its tracks. Just horrifying. And for it to happen in New Zealand of all places is just unbelievable.

I really, really REALLY wish Americans would stop tweeting that this was our first mass shooting, and that we changed the law and banned semi automatic weapons already.
I know a lot of people there are extremely frustrated about their own gun control situation, but using this horrific event for their own ends and making up shit is pissing me off no end.
Yep, lots of people in the US and the UK are using the Christchurch murders to make points about their own countries' situations which is understandable, but I wish they would learn a bit about NZ and NZ politics before mouthing off like they are experts.

Martin Luther King said violence begets violence.... The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
These recent horrors were visited on the south island of New Zealand. They were NOT driven by New Zealand society or New Zealand's politics. The profound challenge will be containing the ripples and moving forward without sectarianism or fear. That said, if there is one place in the world where people have the strength of character and community to stop the descending spiral it is New Zealand.
My bigger fear perhaps is that somewhere else, where there is more sectarianism, someone will use this to attack others they do not understand. I hope not. Time will tell.

Too many stories to sift through, yet still trying to make some sense of the “facts” as first reported.
Initial reports were of a “team” — allegedly three, then a fourth (presumably a woman). A neighbour eye witness claims four people were in the vehicle prior to the massacre.
All I’ve heard since is a lone wolf psychopath. Is there any more information about these other three alleged suspects, has anybody else been apprehended, or have those initial reports now been debunked?
-
One was a guy who took a gun with him to go pick up his kid
The other were a couple in a car. She's been released He faces firearm charges. Another guy was arrested in a car that that contained firearms. Apparently none of the three had anything to do with the mosque gunman

Seems like a lone wolf. Will be interesting to see if the media will go along with that narrative.

A foreign lone wolf, who chose us as a soft target.
Without taking away from the fact that we have issues in our society we need to address, a foreigner shooting people here does not indicate that we are breeding or tolerating madmen like this fella.

"Detectives are investigating an alleged far-right terror attack in Surrey after a teenager was stabbed amid a spate of racist incidents across Britain which came in the wake of the New Zealand massacre.
Politicians and police have condemned the attacks and said extremism has no place in British society.
The 19-year-old victim was said to have been attacked by a man armed with a knife and a baseball bat who it is claimed was heard shouting racist comments.
The incident took place in Stanwell at around 10.30pm on Saturday night and the victim was rushed to hospital with what police said were non-life threatening injuries
Detectives in Whitechapel, east London were investigating a serious assault on a 27-year-old man who was attacked by three people who had been making anti-Muslim comments.
Three people were also in custody in Manchester following incidents in which allegedly offensive remarks were made to people in relation to the New Zealand terror attack.
A 33-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offences after a taxi driver was allegedly threatened and abused.
Separately a 39-year-old woman from Rochdale and a 24-year-old man from Oldham were arrested on suspicion of posting offensive comments online about the New Zealand atrocity.
And in Oxford, Nazi swastikas were sprayed on the wall of school, along with comments which appeared to be a reference to the Christchurch shootings."

Police raid Australian home of accused's sister
Counter-terrorism police are currently at the home of Brenton Tarrant's sister in Sandy Beach, near Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales north coast. There is a heavy police presence at the house, Nine News reports.
Police raided the home about 8.30am AEDT (10:30am NZDT) on Monday, and shortly later executed a search warrant at a home in Lawrence.
New South Wales Police said there was no information to suggest there was an impending threat to the community related to those searches.
In a statement, police said the aim of the search was to formally obtain material that could help New Zealand Police.
Tarrant's family has been assisting police with their inquiries.

I saw a video on Stuff, I think it was John Campbell (?) interviewing the neighbour who said he saw four people in the car. Maybe a false memory? Maybe he had the wrong perp and car? He said he made direct locked eye contact with the psycho for 5-6 seconds while he was loading his gun. Maybe the guy is traumatised and doesn’t know jack??
-
@Salacious-Crumb I get that Campbell is a knob but labelling him a psycho is going a bit far - even though I can appreciate you would be traumatised if Goofy shoved a mike in your face.

@Paekakboyz Left hand, right hand, doesn't matter bro, I'm amphibious!!

@nzzp I've seen some stuff on Social Media, from some very intelligent people claiming this was an 'I told you so' moment; Waititi said NZ was racist, no one believed him...we told you NZ was racist, no one believed us...
That idiot Samoan Eliota whatever his name is is fanning the flames.
I expect NZ, has pockets of racist cnuts, but by and large are a tolerant society, although guys like Eliota show that racism works both ways, even if he is ignorant to his racism.

This article makes a salient point. Do black Christian lives matter less?
Obviously to New Zelaanders at the moment .. yes! But the world media? Supposedly liberal and hating of racism? -

Yes. Neighbour lives a hundred yards from mosque, claims he saw the killer with three other people in car prior to shooting.
I did a search for the vid at Stuff but can’t find it. I searched through many many pages to locate, but they’ve likely removed and it’s now down the rabbit-hole.

Looks like he's going to try and follow the lead of that Norwegian nutter. Should have a closed trial
-
@Salacious-Crumb the shooters video showed only himself and no real room in the car for passengers.
Apparently studies show eye witness accounts to be incredibly inaccurate.
Probably just that, then magnified by unconfirmed media reports

Which sounds like a mistaken memory. There's video of him pulling up and parking. He's the only one in the car
It's also suspicious that the number of people witnessed matched the number of arrests. Despite the two other arrests being unrelated and at different locations
