It was a bloody good catch, but hardly the greatest ever. That is just Nasser Hussain talking shit from a nervous English commentary box

It was weird technique, despite batting left handed he obviously doesn't rate his ability to catch left handed. Great grab though.

    @MN5

The Stokes catch is a lot better than that one because of the faster velocity the ball is travelling off Phehlukwayo's bat.

@NTA If an Aussie had caught that you would be calling it one of the great catches of all time.

It has to be called the greatest catch of all time, because it's Orrrijin time, and that's the most contagious sporting event ever - even half a world away and in a different sport. Maaaaate.

    Poms world cup to lose😉

Although given how exceptional they've been at one day cricket at home for the last 2 years they must be odds on, despite the potential of India and an always competitive Australia.

    Good performance from England

Stokes' effort would struggle to crack the top 5 of just Australian catches.

The fact he made it look a lot more difficult that it was by going off-handed is by the by.

@sparky even Stoke doesn't think it was his best:

Stokes claims Ashes catch was better | cricket.com.au

The England allrounder believes his classic catch in the World Cup opener wasn't even his best

But Stokes claimed he preferred his stunning one-handed grab of an Adam Voges edge in the gully during a 2015 Ashes Test against Australia at Trent Bridge.

Asked if it was the greatest catch of his life, Stokes told reporters: "Nah, that one was against the Aussies, so that one ranks higher!"

See? Everything is better in cricket with Australia involved.

It take a COLOSSAL piston wristed gibbon to post that on a kiwi board.

    Hats off to you sir.

    Know your audience.

But does anyone here seriously think Stokes' effort was better than this?

    Or this?

RIcky Ponting probably has at least 5 catches better than last night. Most of them infield, where the best catches are usually taken.

Without a hint of kiwi bias I think Boults effort is one of the best I ever recall seeing.

With absolute Kiwi bias Matthew Sinclair absolutely giving it to the Aussie crowd after taking a screamer was a treat.

@NTA Best catch I have ever seen is the Andrew Strauss Superman effort to get rid of Gilchrist at Trent Bridge against the Aussies in 2005. Not just for the athleticism and composure, but it was the moment the Great Aussie era in cricket came to an end.

As an aside, wanky slow-mo youtube mash up videos of catch with annoying music over the top are so unnecessary.

Stokes' catch was great but he amde it look harder than it neded to be. Air Vettori at the Caketin in the 2015 World Cup was way better.

Good game so far. Pakistan started off aggressively but Windies have bowled well and are right on top. I think the Windies are a dark horse because their batsmen can put up massive scores against any attack.
