he is just grandstanding!

The Govt already spent more than $26mill on Health alone this morning, how much difference, really would another $26mill have made?

Sadly, the anti-Key/Flag change brigade now believe they have the ammo to shoot down the referendum process and everything about it, despite the numbers suggesting it was a worthwhile process, and showed that there is appetite for change.

Whether you buy into or believe the anecdotal evidence that there were numbers who voted against change because Key or because they didnt like the option (despite both lots wanting change) means the actual result for people wanting change would be higher, whether it is is enough to get past 50%...you will never get an option that everyone likes, some will always dislike it, but what people need to be able to do is look past that and see if the flag is more representative of NZ than the current flag.

I was very anti-RP, but if the choice had been between it and the current, flag, I dont know how I'd of voted, a) because I did like the supposed back story to it, which gave it a connection to NZ, b ) I do want change, c) I never saw it flying, and it was this that got me well behind the alternative design....fortunately I didnt have to make that choice cos I disliked it more than the other choices in the first part of the referndum!

You raise a good point TR.

Not that I could vote anyway ... but Red Peak v NZ Ensign?

Hated Peak. Found it bland, non descript and generic. It could have been the geometric stripes of any number of other countries.

If that was the choice I'd have voted status quo.

I liked red peak at first until I saw the people that had jumped on the bandwagon , Winger and a horde of leftards and Twitter bullies. I wanted no part of that .

Jane Bowrons stories about life in post quake Christchurch were very good reading unfortunately for the past three years or so every time she's strayed outside of that topic she's written a lot of nonsense a student council member would be embarrassed to put their name to .

I find it irritating that somehow the fact that the option contained a fern is seen as a bad thing. I actually wanted a fern on the new flag.. so did a lot of others.. which is why it beat off the option without a fern in the first referendum. So Andrew Little can go fuck himself.

Andrew Little has bought up the Republic issue now...

Bold move, one that quite possibly might impact their election hopes IMO if they put it on their promises

So:

referendum on the flag = waste of money

referendum on republic = money well spent

OK, got it.

after which, we'd need to decide on a new flag if we became a republic

My mother listens to talkback apparently one of the objections raised was that we would all have to instantly get new passports .

Could Little's Labour be any further out of touch. The only way it looks worse is if comrade Turei and the workers Green Party support it too

The cost of going republic is massive.
I'm no royalist but I don't see a need to change a political system that works reasonably well.
Remember the the Queen is queen of NZ alongside being Queen of England etc. we aren't headed by a foreign Monarch just a monarch that also heads other countries.
They may be a bunch of inbred Germans but having an independent entity isn't so bad.

100% agree. The cost would be enormous for something most people don't really give a shit about. Would rather the Queen or any of her spawn over some snout in the trough politician.

Hopefully Key lets them do it, I've already decided how I'm going to vote.

I guess you could say that, I was in favour of a change though. They were mostly trying to mess with the process and cause trouble . I didn't want to be part of that at all .

haha I went to the beach over the weekend, and drove past an area I had seen flags flying, and low and behold they still had the alternative design flying, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I saw 2 of the other alternatives flying too, and they still were on Sunday!

Sometimes you just gotta wonder what drives these people? Social media really has shown a lot of people up for the idiots they are.

A good portion of Labour/Green MP's are complete fucking hypocrites when it comes to wealth and spending.
