@victor-meldrew Just the two of you? Sounds like you have it cracked mate. At the Cato household it really ought to have been simple, just Mr & Mrs Cato plus the two young men-sahibs and their respective gentlemen friends and lastly the freeloader from across the road.

Simple? Bollocks it is. Every single one of them apart from Mrs C has been a yes/no/maybe at one time or another. All at different times. Anyway, we are now 6 for Christmas including the freeloader.

The wine choice has become something of a compromise as Mrs Cato keeps deciding that she doesn't like certain wines, this of course keeps changing. So whilst I was hoping to hoe into a bottle or two of decent claret, I am forced into opening the nicely maturing Gevrey Chambertin, which I was hoping to keep for a little longer.

Oh and I'm making them all eat sprouts.

We normally have big family Christmases, 12 people or so, but this year we really want a break from family as Mrs M has had a rough time with her parents health and her Father's death. Back to normal over New Year when we have 8 people staying with us.

It's great you're having your neighbour over, though. Real spirit of Christmas, that sort of thing.

Oh and I'm making them all eat sprouts.

I have little choice in the matter.

So as usual I have Ms DM's mob over. Two new grandchildren this year. One of the Mum's has severe post natal depression. All three of her kids have had a fight with 'er indoors this week. Plus both her parents died this year.

Have I ever mentioned I hate Xmas.

Cooking a 5 bone standing rib on the BBQ - cooked a gammon last weekend and will glaze it once beef is out.

Have a half case of 2003 Stonyridge LaRose which I aim to sample the first of (and maybe the second).

    Roll on Boxing Day.

Hope all you buggers get what you want - not what you deserve 😉

    Merry Xmas everyone.

Managed to escape Auckland, now have a 6hour drive ahead to get to in the in laws.

Once there I have a bottle of whiskey to drain while the kids go off and parent themselves.

It’s 8.00am and it feels like 30 degrees.

With no usual visitors from Melbourne to stay over Xmas it will be more quiet.... But the eating starts in earnest tonight, pork belly and picanha on the bbq, then turkey at the in laws tomorrow. Friends for another BBQ on Boxing day, and a NY22 bbq turkey on the 31st. I think I will get a few hand made vodka martinis in there as well.

Reminds me of my childhood Christmases in Lower Hutt - and my parents arguing about the best way to keep the Lamingtons fresh when we hit the beach at Days Bay on Boxing Day.

Good old Days Bay. Feed the ducks, fish off the wharf,
go for a swim and play real lawn tennis. Great days

    Afternoon nap, leftovers for dinner.

    Happy Christmas Ferners!

We've decided to buck tradition of going to my parents or brothers place (or our place) and we are all going to the beach for a BBQ.

With temps forecast high 20s (which usually means +3 or 4 deg) being at the beach will be sweet

Going to the exes for Xmas morning to watch the kids unwrap pressies then Waikanae to my godmothers. No spare beds but I just found out that there’s free trains so that means that I can drink as much as I want unlike a couple of years back when I had to get onto the black coffees to ensure I didn’t fall victim to a bored cop wanting to bust someone for DIC.

    Happy holidays all

Merry Christmas bro! Are you travelling North or South?

We are just hooching around the farm and at the races. @Smudge is coming for a visit one night which will be cool.
