While I was gloating about the election victory to my leftard friends some of them asked me how I could bring myself to vote for the great satan, I asked how the hell they could vote for a govt of labour/nz first/ greens and mana which is what the alternative was. This usually resulted in a pause and some sort of muttered "oh well ,you know...." kind of response.

Next time around I expect Winston to cause even more shit, the morning after the last election he said he was the actual leader of the opposition not silent t.
-

To be fair the mp he bought in after he won in Northland seems quite sane and has actually had a productive life outside of parliament http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11436898
-
He pulls pony tails. And is pretty wealthy. That's basically it.

I think there is a healthy dose of the tall poppy syndrome going on. Even though it is a bonus he's had a life outside of politics and was seemingly very good at what he did, the personal wealth thing really seems to claw a lot of blackboards.
-

I don't really understand that. It's not like he had a trust fund like Trump.

How much money do I need to make before you poor menial fuckers have to throw a party for me? I assume that since I haven't yet got a knighthood like Michael Fay, Bob Jones, Ron Brierley, Peter Talley....that I haven't made enough yet. But, get the balloons and the paper hats ready!
-

I assume it's because he's glib and teflon coated which detractors see as smarmy and untrustworthy.

They will also hate him simply because he's a lightning rod for their disappointment at the lefts performance.

He does rely on personality politics so it's hardly surprising that he is the bogeyman for the emasculated left.

That explains the antipathy of those who engage in political debate. Quite why Key and his policies TPPA - the flag etc - are so despised by the FB generation een when they have no idea what the issues are is beyond me.

Key does polarise people though. For al the haters there are also the fans who idolise him and treat him like some sort of combination of Pericles/Pitt the Younger/the Founding Fathers/ Gandhi and Mandela. Both extremes are equally invalid and ridiculous.
-

Only the first comment there applies to me. The guy just loves attention and once he realised that being a goofy dork actually seemed to endear him to voters he overplays it.

I just find that he lacks statesman like qualities and that is what disappoints me about someone in such a strong position to make meaningful change.
-

What does 'statesman like' even mean really? I just find criticism like that rather meaningless, almost as if people cannot really find anything specific so resort to vague generalisations.
-

Thats not how it works in NZ at all. There are parallels to how the average kiwi views the wealthy to Clarkson's column on Britain here.

Alternatively they could have recognised it was Clarkson and aren't letting him in, not because of the Ferrari, but because he is a smug, narcissistic, bullying, arrogant fuck-knuckle
-

Upon further reflection on what a 'statesman ' is supposed to be like.. all I can up with is from examples of those described as statesman in the past.. they have usually been good at bringing sides together from various view points to find a common ground. Key def has not managed that. But with the feral opposition he is dealing with.. nobody could. The left in NZ are to busy opposing absolutely everything he does because HE is doing it for much statesman like conduct to be occurring. Look at the flag debate.
