If a film isn't any good without a big screen and surround sound then maybe it just isn't very good? As mentioned, if it's all about visuals then I'd prefer a nature doco or something like that rather than pixels.

I know we have a GOM thread that gets plenty of action, but we should be in no doubt that the biggest curmudgeons on the Fern live right here, in the Movie thread.
What a bunch of pretentious gits most of you are.
There seems no harm in enjoying mindless zombie films, yet a big-screen visual spectacular is somehow beneath many of you.
Maybe take off your wannabe arty hats (berets probably?) for a second and appreciate something for what it is designed for.
I've seen great CGI before. If it doesn't have a compelling plot, great acting, etc. why the fuck would I watch it?
With all due respect, compared to what Cameron served up in Avatar, no you haven't
And the water shit in this eclipses the Forest shit from the last.
No CGI is even close to the Avatar films, he literally invents new tech for them. Worth seeing on the biggest screen possible.

Glass Onion
About as many layers as 2-ply toilet paper
If the money spent on it is correct then this could be the vanity project which brings Netflix down
Seen better performances and story in local an-dram farces
Effects were good though
2 gherkins out of 5 that’s shollot
I’m with Mike. Pretty disappointing after the much better Knives Out. Great cast , shit plot, average everything else
2 seems fair

@taniwharugby Some powerful looking thighs on her!

Helter Skelter (2004).
Docu-drama on the Manson Family and the Tate–LaBianca murders based on the book by the prosecutor in the case. Pretty good overall with some chilling scenes but the high point is the acting of Jeremy Davies, who played Manson, which was stunning. Well worth a watch.
4 Peace and Love Hippies out of 5 crazed Commune Leaders

Avatar.
Was looking forward to coming on here and telling you movie snobs you're wrong, and it was awesome fun.
But, you're not, and it wasn't.
Only went as Jr wanted to, so the three of us caught the morning session. Got paroled in time for afternoon tea.
Slow, boring, not engaging, unlikeable (any of the characters).
Don't know what @mariner4life was watching. I have my suspicions that he's trying to punish the rest of The Fern for him having to endure this torture himself and taking down as many as he can on the way.
Just don't.
1.5 repetitive CGIs out of 5 no discernable storylines.

The Bombardment
Danish movie on Netflix, previously known as The Shadow in My Eye. It t4ells the story of a real life bombing raid in WW2 called Operation Carthage designed to be a low level attack on Gestapo HQ in the old Shell Building. As a result of fuckups, two waves of bombers instead target a school. The raid caused 125 civilian deaths, including 86 schoolchildren and 18 adults at the school.
It may be of interest that one of the three bomber squadrons that flew this low-level raid was No. 487 Squadron RNZAF. They were all flying De Havilland Mosquitos. One of the aircraft in the first wave crashed into a garage next to the school. This started a large fire which some of the following aircraft mistakenly believed to be the correct target.

The Batman (2022)
A boring, derivative, mumbly dialogue, cliched and over-long turd of a film. Utter, utter shite and the worst 90 minutes I've watched for yonks.
1 over-done Comic Villain out of 5 Undercooked Super Heroes.
-
Violent Night (2022)
Watched after Christmas and thought it was great. Anarchic, comic and a bit suspenseful at the same time. Def. on the Christmas watch-list for next year.
4.5 Uncle Scrooges out of 5 Richard Attenborough Kris Kringles

I didn't think it was that great. Stole from a bunch of excellent Xmas and action films

Glass Onion: A Knives Out mystery
Only half way through this as the girl kept falling asleep on the couch. Will finish it tonight.
Awesome fun so far, Daniel Craig is so good against Bond “type”, Edward Norton is great as a smarmy rich dickhead, Bautista still amazes me as a wrestler turned actor and Kate Hudson is HAF ( why have I never notice before )
Definitely recommend ( but the ending might be shit for all I know )
