Actually they both banged Brigitte Nielsen and Sly was stupid enough to marry her.

It's hard to compare them. Arnie could beat shit into Sly, but Sly was more functional. Sly has also invented 3 enormous franchises (Rocky, Rambo and Expendables). That ain't too shabby.

On the other hand, Sly has been in a great deal more shit than Arnie. Oscar, Stop or my Mom will Shoot, Cobra.

Arnies franchises ( Terminator, Predator and Conan ) are so much better it's not even funny, he didn't even feel the need to appear in half of them.

I'm surprised he didn't turn Commando into a franchise though, Bennetts gay lover coming back for revenge, assembling a gang of thugs and attacking Arnie and Alyssa in the log cabin in the woods.....fuck there's the first sequel written right there.

Wait on, I love me some Arnie, but calling the Predator and Conan franchises better than Rocky and Rambo is a huuuuge fucking stretch. Predator 2 is shit, and Arnie's not even in it. Alien v Predator can eat all of the dick. And Conan? Barbarian? Awesome (so awesome). Destroyer? campy garbage. Hell, Red Sonja is better than that. Then fucking Kevin Sorbo gets the next one because Arnie doesn't want it. And then the last one sucked too.

Terminator was great for 2 movies.

Sly gets my vote these days because as I get older I pay more due to the fact he created Rocky and Rambo rather than just acting in them. I also think he's a better actor.

Mariner has pretty much covered everything, but I guess I should have specified that I meant franchise movies HE WAS ACTUALLY IN. And yes the subsequent Predator and Conan movies were shit beyond belief. The only good thing about Terminator 3 was Kristina Loeken's arse.

It should also be noted that in addition to acting in these wildly successful franchises, Sly actually either created or had a major role in their production (producer, screenplay etc.). As far as I know Arnie didn't write or invent anything.

As I said, I'm not rating one over the other (I mean shit, Arnie became Governor of farking California), but you have to give Sly cred for creating not one but 3 billion dollar franchises.

Interestingly enough, Arnie won a Golden Globe back in the day as best newcomer in some Jeff Bridges film. But his competition was that kid from the Omen, so I don't know if that was much of an achievement.

Sly is a much better actor, but Arnie has more screen presence and charisma. You can't really compare them.

He didn't really create Rambo - from scratch anyway, you can argue that he developed the over the top version of John Rambo on the original character from the book (and first movie).

Teri Weigel was superb in her brief appearance in predator 2 , so the movie is not entirely without its charms .

Slys range is...limited, but he has his moments. He was just nominated for an Oscar.Arnie is a straight out crap actor who couldn't buy a nomination. But he makes up for that with his presence. Who gives a shit he can't act when he's a muscle bound freak with a ridiculous name and voice.

It's no coincidence that his best acting performances are as a robot.

You're not swapping it for Princess Bride though. That's got to stay in.

Just saw 'Chasing Great' with my brother. Both really enjoyed it but definitely one for rugby tragics out there, general public might not find it so interesting. Not at the same level as 'Weight of a Nation but still captured a good amount of World cup drama, some insight on the man himself (spoiler alert! he's a regular bloke so keep expectations in check) also some behind the scenes footage which I hadn't seen before.

Re-watched Monster's Ball. Billy Bob and Heath are both really, really good, actually Sean Combs was good too. Halle is good when she is being a normal person, not screechy melodrama queen.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. I got a few laughs out of this, but overall a bit disappointing. The romance was meh (Martin Freeman over hot security guy? Really?) and it kind of swayed between really gritty, good stuff about war and tv and journos who chase the scary stories, and some stereotypical characters that sucked. On a side note, I was getting really pissed off at the character who was supposed to be a New Zealander (awful Aussie accent) until it got to the point where he gets his nose broken and it turns out he is Canadian and pretending. (A very odd plot point.)

ha yeah, Freeman was just an odd choice for that role full stop, just didn't buy it.

Agree some good stuff but also some rubbish, and wasn't it based on the memoirs of the main character, so in essence, supposedly true?

Reminded me of a taped version of "Trading Places" I borrowed off a mate in the late 80's, right when Jamie Lee Curtis gets her gears off in front of Dan Aykroyd the picture got extremely snowy.

Whilst walking through Newtown after getting my hair cut I saw Terminator ( the original ) on DVD for 2 bucks, so naturally I got it. Watching it actually irritated me what a fucken joke the character became in the later movies. The tone of the original flick is so dark and seeing it for the first time in ages reminded me how well it is actually made. You don't have any idea who he is until after the tech noir ( night club ) scene when you see the visuals from his point of view and realize he's not a man. Again, as I said Arnies acting chops are pretty limited at best but the presence he has means you can't picture anyone else in the role.

The fact that in later movies, amongst other things he asks why someone cries, becomes a grey haired old git pulling stupid smily faces....oh not to mention this.....

Jason Bourne.

Meh. I was expecting a lot more from this, especially having enjoyed the first three (I haven't watched the one without Matt Damon). It was just same old same old bouncing between Europe and the States, except it didn't feel fresh or thrillerish. The stakes were pretty shallow, and the momentum came from the usual 'eeek, must kill Bourne' rather than him presenting as a genuine active threat or blackmailing the CIA. But while there were some pretty impressive chase scenes (especially the SWAT truck one) they just seemed to go on and on. And the interlinking plot was pretty thin, a few subplots were pointless (like the social media stuff) and because people were popping up then swiftly dying or disappearing, there wasn't much in the way of character development or meaningful interaction. I wanted so much more in terms of unravelling Bourne's past.

Damon was good, Tommy Lee Jones reliably crusty, Alicia Vikander straddling the line of good and evil. Vincent Cassell was almost robotic as the Asset, for someone who it was allegedly so personal for, he didn't show much emotion, and his body count was a bit ridiculous.

Went to the movies with the missus to watch Suicide Squad. Wasnt as bad as I was expecting (given it had been panned by the critics). The superhero genre is so over done these days and other than 1 or 2 oddball characters, this movie brought nothing new.
5.5 nutjobs out of a possible 10.
