Harvey Weinstein

So I thought I'd look into just how beholden all these democrats are to Weinstein.
"Since the 2000 election cycle, Weinstein has donated nearly $US1 million in his own name in addition to collecting and providing roughly $US1.5 million as a part of “bundled” donations, which the Center for Responsive Politics defines as contributions provided by “people with friends in high places who, after bumping against personal contribution limits, turn to those friends, associates, and, well, anyone who’s willing to give, and deliver the checks to the candidate.”
Top Democrats including former President Barack Obama, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, and Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Al Franken, Cory Booker, and Kirsten Gillibrand have all received contributions from Weinstein, the Hollywood mega-executive who co-founded Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company".https://www.businessinsider.com.au/harvey-weinstein-political-donations-2017-10?r=US&IR=T
so at a stretch he donated 2.5 Mill across 4 presidential campaigns. Whoop-de-fucking-doo
According to Forbes, in the last primaries alone 5 individuals gave more than Weinstein did over 16 years. Now I'm not advocating a witch hunt but how much influence did Weinstein actually buy? I'm guessing a couple of photo ops.
NY Times has a list of the top 85 donors from 2016
No Weinstein
So can we please just concentrate on this cretin and not look to victim bash or promote other agendas

It gets really tiresome so many threads being hijacked by Trump apologists
1 Hilary has publically stated that she is appalled by Weinstein and he should suffer full consequences of his actions
2 Yeah Hollywood majority is liberal but given the Sec State allegedly called Trump a moron why shouldn't an actor
3 Weinstein's abhorrent behavior doesn't excuse Trumps abhorrent behavior. There's plenty of allegations about him doing more than just grope but he's made to POTUS
4 Although it seems knowledge of Weinstein's behavior was indeed widespread politicians and political parties of all persuasions take money and endorsements from all manner of scumbags. Is it hypocritical to blame one when you have direct knowledge of the other and still cosy up to the second. Definitely but everyone's doing it - unfortunately.
5 The direct knowledge thing is interesting. Don't underestimate peoples ability to ignore stuff that with hindsight is obvious - not because of any benefit they receive - but because the facts are just too heinous for their mind to accept. Unfortunately I have some experience here. A guy once worked in one of my sites. He was an evil paedophile of the worst order. His workmates were defending him rigorously despite evidence to the contrary right up until he confessed because they could not believe someone they worked with and knew was a monster. I'm sure we've all had conversations like "wouldn't surprise me if X was done for Y" but we do nothing about it because we refuse to countenance reality and fall back to thinking he's a bit strange sure but No way. That's before you factor in the power and influence, money and lawyers and shit that Weinstein employed to ensure he could maintain a patina of respectability.Trump apologists? Well seen as you want to start throwing shite....
I find it incredibly tiresome about people bitching about a political angle being talked about a scandal in a POLITICS forum. It is not fucking rocket science... did you look at the title of the forum? Did you look at the title of the thread and think.. hey maybe the political angle might be discussed to this scandal? I am guessing not.. I assume you just jumped straight in and decided you would have a crack at restricting the discussion. Nearly every news article on this scandal has mentioned the Clintons and Obamas very close ties to Weinstein.. are they all Trump apologists as well?FFS we created this sub forum due to the loud and consistent bitching form the likes of you and those that liked your posts that politics was coming up in off topic thread way to much.. the fact you are still bitching just shows it was never really about keeping politics away from off topic and everything to do with making sure you don't have to read about politics you don't like.
Weinstein was heavily involved in politics, sexual misdemeanors are a relevant topic in US politics, Hollywood is a relevant topic in US politics, combine all those things together and you have very relevant US politics talking point. It is not hijacking just because you don't want to discuss it.. although you then discussed it.. which would have been funny if it hadn't been so stupid,
Nah I didn't realise this was in the Politics forum because Unread is my landing page. Seems an odd choice to me but there you go live and learn.
Like you I must have a short term memory as I don't recall particularly bitching about politics incurring into every thread. I did get sick of the triumphalism on the US Election thread but simply decided to ignore the thread entirely.
My post about contributions was written before I read your contribution.

Description of this forum:
Politics, Culture Wars, Foreign Policy etcThis thread was split from the Political Correctness thread. This story absolutely fits the culture wars description.. Harveys place in the culture wars and the reaction to these revelations
That forum description was for a specific reason. Lots of people don't want to discuss/read about this stuff. They can block this forum and browse the other forums without these topics polluting them

I think those who think this particular forum should be politics free (astonishingly and coincidentally enough those who lean left) should check out the statement from the man himself:
No, nothing political to see there.

Typically self serving crap. The sort of apology when you want to make out your behaviour is not really your fault because there's some pseudoscience involved that absolves one of responsibility. For full effect, they need to state they're seeking treatment and they're sorry if anyone took offence...

From Gawker (another media org not universally recognized as friendly to Republicans) published this "despicable open secret" 2-1/2 years ago -- before the thousand-dollar gold-plated gala fundraisers, before the money bundling & Super-PACs, etc.
"Tell Us What You Know About Harvey Weinstein's "Open Secret"
"[... A]n indie film producer had told her that stories of Weinstein's behavior will "make Bill Cosby look like a monk." People in the film industry, she said, understand Weinstein's M.O. to be the following: he holds "casting sessions" at his office on Friday evenings when he can be alone, and that he greets women in his bathrobe."

It beggars belief people surrounding the sitting president and presumptive nominee didn't know they were hitching their wagon to a deviant criminal pervert who could badly stain the party and presidency. (The point of my earlier posting the "Tom Hagen is a really bad consigliere" video.)

Here's a fun read:
The bio for 30 year Republican Congressman and eight year House Republican leader Dennis Hastert:
Oh, he was also a child abuser who had been paying hush-money to victims.
He was the House leader, and the most hardcore registered Republicans regularly accused him of being a Democrat. Christian conservatives in those circles have done intense witchhunts on prospective GOP nominees ever since, they want the filth out, no more pedophiles running for office, and Hastert's name is employed up-front as a cautionary tale about all politicians.

I have a deep interest in politics but not necessary politicisation
So, not that deep of an interest? Do you think politics and culture wars are mutually exclusive?

I'll add my apologies. Similar to @dogmeat I didn't realise this was in the Politics forum as I too go straight to unread. (Assumed it was Off Topic).
So it's actually an issue of "maggot with power money and influence exposes up hypocrisy"?
Carry on.
Ditto from me. Thanks to @duluth I’ve learnt how to remove all the political threads from my Unread feed

This would still have a political element even if it was in off topic. Have you read Weinsteins statement?

If you're a celebrity it's probably a good idea to avoid politicians and underage boys 'n girls. Before Harvey became a movie mogul, he was a rock promoter in Buffalo and presented a lot of big shows - Stones, Zeppelin, Nugent - where the sort of lurid debauchery alleged against Harvey were likely then commonplace, so that's the ONE part of his initial "apology" statement that I believe (the child of the 60s & 70s remark). And sadly, if we really wanted to put a magnifying glass to our rock heroes I'm sure we'll discover a lot of really sicko stuff with 13 year old girls. That's the flipside of being a modern-day virtue-signalling SJW hypocrite like Affleck and Kimmel -- pretty soon people starting posting creepy old videos on youtube.
