Media is like someone who gives up smoking then suddenly gets his hands on a packet ... if he's playing golf, fine he's news, however if he's farting and scratching his arse ....

This is like when Jordan played for the Wizards. He wasn't at his best but he still dropped 51 in a game.

Tiger is the Jordan, Ali, Bolt, Federer of golf. You want him to succeed even if you don't like him. You want him to add to his legend. I know Nicklaus is the all time major winner but Tiger is the best golfer I have ever seen.

    Wow wow wow boomfa ...

Outright lead after the most spectacular par 5 you'll ever see. 600 yards ... 350 drive ... 250 fairway wood up high which drops 15ft from pin and Nails the putt. He is the one.

Side note, miss 3 just called Jordan spieth 'John Beef' ... that's gonna stick

Golf has done superbly well in his absence with the likes of Scott, Day, Speith, Johnson, McIlroy, Fowler, Watson et al, but his presence on the golf course is even better!

Holy shit. Was not expecting this come back to be significantly different to the earlier false starts. But Tiger is looking sharp as fuck. Given the stress golf puts on your back and the number of surgeries he's had, it's crazy he's going so well. Can't be easy to reinvent that much of your game, while dealing with the odd personal issue! 🙂

Hope the health side of things isn't an issue and we get to see a genuine return to the top.

    Get in the hole!!!

Only 'done well' among golf fans and followers. Any of those guys could sit beside me in a bar and I wouldn't know who the fuck they were. Tiger would only have to walk past the bar and everyone would be talking about it.

@crucial fair enough...as someone who follows golf I think there is a great crop of guys that emerged when the PGA expected a drop off after Tigers decline...but I've always been a fan of Tigers golf game so have always wanted him back at the top of his game.

Someone had to win the tournaments that he was no longer winning.

Thing that is usually the case with golf is that every dog has his day. Occasionally they even have a few days in a row, but the same guy that wins a tourney one week will end up 63rd the next.

Tiger was different, he was a dominant player to the extent that it was expected he would win every time, even batting away whatever challenger was having a good day that time around.

I haven't seen anyone else take up that level of consistency.

@crucial but there is the argument that there are more players capable of winning each week...Speith and Johnson are outstanding players, not yet been at the top as long though.

Not to mention similar arguments have been made of Nicklaus' era re his dominance in an era when so many were capable.

Comparing eras is never fair to anyone.

I just hope Tiger is back for a sustained period and his head is in the game.

Tiger was a bit shit yesterday on a very tough day (think only Hoffman was under par) but wow hes been good today. Currently -5 for the day and -9 overall going down the 18th.

Round of the day (and tournament) though looking Ricky Fowlers. Currently with a 3 shot lead at -17. Birdied the first 7 holes to go out in 28. Could be a low low round here

I'll give the TV coverage a free pass as it is his first tournament back but I watched a bit of the 3rd round on Sunday morning and they continued to show every shot of the lowest ranked player in the field as he slid down the leaderboard. He will always get more coverage when not contending than Mr Average Tour guy but making every tournament all about Tiger every time he plays just turns the sport into a sideshow. Golf media has to show some self-control and ignore him if he is down the field like they ignore all the other non-contenders.

They simply can't at the moment as he is just so good for the sport. I think I read that this tournament has higher ratings than the majors this year?

I don't think Tiger would happily carry on if he was a rubbish all the time.

There were certianly some Tiger of old plays this weekend. I really enjoyed it
