Halfback TJ Perenara will return to the starting line-up for the Hurricanes and take over the captaincy against the Reds for their Investec Super Rugby match at Westpac Stadium on Friday night. Despite having a month on the sidelines following a knee injury, Perenara showed he was more than ready to start for the Hurricanes after coming off the bench with great effect in the side's win over the Blues at Eden Park last round. He will take over the captaincy from regular skipper Brad Shields who has been given an opportunity to come off the bench after starting an impressive 39 matches in a row for the Hurricanes. Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd has named a strong line-up to face the Reds as the squad tries to win its 10th match in a row in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd at Westpac Stadium as 'club night' is celebrated. Part of the celebrations will see fans get a unique chance to come on to the field and join the players before a photograph will be taken to mark the special occasion. While the pack has had a bit of a reshuffle, the players Boyd has named have all got a healthy amount of Super Rugby experience. That includes No 8 Blade Thomson who will get his first run-on this season while he will be accompanied in the loose forwards by Reed Prinsep and Ardie Savea. The other change in the pack sees Michael Fatialofa return to the second row in place of Vaea Fifita who suffered a head knock early against the Blues. Fifita has, however, recovered and will take his place on the bench. There will also be a debut for promising midfield back Peter Umaga-Jensen who has impressed with his attitude within the squad despite a lack of opportunities to date. Fullback Jordie Barrett returns to the starting line-up after coming off the bench against the Blues with Nehe-Milner Skudder moving to the wing in place of Julian Savea. Kick-off at Westpac Stadium is 7.35pm.

Interesting and good looking team. I am eager to see what Umaga-Jensen can bring in midfield.

Well in case anyone thought they'd bounce back with a point to prove this week, that should set people straight.
-
By rights we should be putting 3 figures on this team
-
love this part:
There will also be a debut for promising midfield back Peter Umaga-Jensen who has impressed with his attitude within the squad despite a lack of opportunities to date.
-
@taniwharugby by all accounts attitude is what got Codie Taylor his AB callup ahead of certain other Hookers and he hasn't looked back.
-
@no-quarter must be a Crusader thing, wasn't attitude at training a big thing with Hammett
-
Shame they can't give Jordie a run at 12. Would be a perfect opportunity.
Have I ever mentioned that I think he's more of a 12?
-
Funny cause Jordie played 12 at school and Peter played 15 at school which was only 3 years ago for these boys

Must be a helluva good 12, judging by him giving BFA a good nudge at fullback. Pity there's zero evidence...

Zero evidence of what? Jordie played at 12 for NZ U20s.

Well gosh. Colour me convinced then. SBW who?
-
@bones I genuinely asked a question. What did you mean with zero evidence of what, because I thought this was only about tonight's game. I think it would have been interesting to see how he'd do at 12 for the Canes. What does that have to do with SBW?

@Bones Wtf? He played there for the U21s and Canterbury. Zero evidence my arse.

and the Highlanders
and JTA is wearing Crusaders headgear

A Savea's tackling is piss poor, especially for a flanker. Missed two tackles there in the space of a minute
-
Lam!
-
-
@tordah power and finesse, although dont want to see too many kids carrying like that haha
-
Reds making huge inroads around the ruck..although break started when a Reds player took TJP well behind the ruck, so shoulda been pinged many phases earlier
-
Reds taking the chest better to heart, into ruck from all angles and taking players well off the ball out of the ruck
-
Tupou in....canes fringe defence pretty shit

Carrying it like what?
-
Eventually someone was going to get caught planting the ball too casually...
-
@rapido out in one hand, like that one that he dropped...
-
Fucking Hell off a non straight line out
-
Casual all round from the Canes...
-
Forward pass! Should have stopped him anyway. Maybe our patchy play will catch up with us tonignt
-
Milner-Skudder has been great on chasing the kick-off.
-
@canefan haha not straight lineout, then forward pass, all right in front of the ref.
-
Now Fifita lost the ball and did his shoulder too.....
-
@canefan doesnt look happy!
-
Errors are stopping us from building pressure
-
Geez, I hope Fifita's injury isn't too bad. ABs really can't afford to lose more players.
