@JC Wow. That took me back. So I of course found this:
My very first album that I bought myself was Gary. Was really young so must have saved up pocket money - which now makes me feel very old.
Do you still have it in your wine basement?

It is a cellar full of Chianti.
Do you like Chianti? You are now invited.

Cool, shall I bring the Fava beans? I have some fresh in the garden. Happy to contribute to the chianti dungeon.

Kiwi tradition to "bring a plate".
That expression still makes me laugh when foreigners (usually Brits) take it at face value and just show up with a plate, but I Lee Grant.

Just a good banger to sing to in the car with the kids. Quite apt for 2020 too
Damn, I love (loved?) that tune, but I wish I'd never seen that video. From the Oompa Loompa chick to the almost-asleep bloke up 3rd, its a horrible watch. Only the 2nd dude gives it some life !
I hear all of that. Sometimes it’s best not to picture who’s behind the music.
Do you know who that 2nd bloke was? He was great. Such great tone.
Wikipedia tells me they were a bunch of five siblings, a bit of a headline for Motown briefly until the Jackson five came along.
I love discovering gems like this track.
Was it Boyz in the Hood where this song got airtime? Or have I got that mixed up?
Guardians of the Galaxy II ?

Proof of a producer. A decent song, but filler really. Up the drums snd bass and it’s a different ball game.
The rare moments of Cornell and guitar only show the blandness of this song. But the band on full song it’s excellent.
Outstanding voice, one of the best rock vocalists of his generation. But despite that I really don't like his slow stuff much if at all.....the version of "Patience" he did is even more dreary than the original.
I reckon THIS is where he really shines
and this.....
oh and this......
Audioslave were definitely decent but not a patch on any of this I didn't think.

Haven't heard much of his heavier stuff because that is not really my style of music, but I have to agree about Cornel's acoustic efforts. I think they are terrible. His guitar playing and voice do not suit it. And fucked if I can understand the words when he sings. Reminds me of fingernails on a chalk board. Except Billie Jean, for some reason I don't mind that one.

The latest Soft Rock for Hard Times seems appropriate to post tonight.

Egypt Station by Paul McCartney
Christmas present which I finally got round to putting on the CD player today. First McCartney album I've listened to for years.
It's bloody brilliant. Seem to have been playing it all day - haven't done that with a record for what seems like decades. Hardly a duff track on it and 3 or 4 are way up there with the best he's written.
9/10

I haven't listened to the album, but that single he released a few months back Happy With You is tripe. Sounds like something my kid would write (aside from the stoned bit).
"I'm happy...with you
Got lots of good things to do
Oh yeah"Seriously, lots of good things to do???
But I'll give the rest a go on your recommendation!
