@canefan Can't see things opening up internationally in the immediate future, so I think an NZ Mini-Series is the answer.
Only possible until a player tests positive. Then hwo do you continue it?
This looks like it's going to have some real legs I fear
If all sports are going to be canned - we'll have to start National Service weekends, where everyone gets out and picks up rubbish, etc.
Otherwise what is the populace going to do at weekends? Hang around in shopping malls?
Yeah, and talk bollocks on the internet. It'd be a disaster!
If this gets into the community at large, then gatherings (like even kids sports) could be canned. I am not sure we're appreciating quite how big this could be, and how much it will effect things.
If it gets out into the community at large then we will probably be like China and Italy and everything will close.
But, since we're not there yet, we can hope that the current measures might stop us getting there.
Our isolation and low population helps. But there's nothing wrong with trying to stay ahead of the play

The thing that worries me is the lag in detection. By thte time you start to confrim there are lots of cases by testing, there are shedloads of infected people running around the community. I'm not that risk averse generally, but being a bit pre-emptive sounds like a damn good idea right now when comparing upside or downside risk.
That Medium article someone posted earlier was itneresting - key graph below

@canefan Yeah - we've got these travel measures in place and now, I guess, we wait and see what happens.
I thought it was somewhat promising that we'd gone for 6 days without getting a new diagnosis before this latest horse racing guy - and so far only people with obvious direct travel connections.
Maybe we've been incredibly lucky and there's no people currently wandering the streets incubating it - or maybe by next week we'll have a community outbreak.
Time will tell.
-
@taniwharugby I think so too - but, just while we've been typing there's an Australian guy apparently confirmed in Wellington, who probably should have stayed home.

Good piece
I'm shocked a never Trumpet hates Trump and finds fault with his handling. Shocked I tells ya.... I am annoyed I read that, it is so incredibly dishonest.
People are the worst. On the news last.. In the same article they literally blamed Trump for overreacting at the same time as blaming for not taking it seriously enough. The media suck donkey balls.
I thought it was pretty fair. Clearly doesn't blame him for creating this, but is highly critical of his handling.
I don't see how you could really argue otherwise but I'm happy to see you try. For me, everything that has come out of his mouth has been a disaster.
Seriously you think it is fair because they don't blame him for creating the virus?
Jesus weptFucks sake man, you wonder why people hardly ever take your side in arguments around here.
I didn't say its fair BECAUSE they don't blame him for creating the virus. I said it is fair AND it doesn't blame him for anything of the sort.
But don't you worry yourself with what I actually said, just keep on calling me a Trump basher. And you should certainly not try to attempt to defend his actual handling of this crisis.
Most people are morons so I take it as a compliment. Way to many posters on here are suffering from Trump derangement, so now that we have dealt with you ad hominum logical fallacy, lets move on.
The article you posted was unbalanced, dishonest bullshit form a Trump hater. The fact you think it was fair is amazing to me.
Trump was criticized for stopping flights to China a few weeks back.. that was racist. He was attacked for stopping flights from Europe, he is right about that.
He has been attacked for a lack of diversity in his critical response team.... cause that is super important to Trump haters. Not enough trans black disabled lesbian dwarfs organising the response.... apparently
He was criticised for not taking it seriously enough, then he was attacked for fear mongering, now he is being attacked for not taking it seriously enough again.
Then he was attacked for calling the virus a hoax, despite him never saying that
Then he was attacked for not helping states enough... despite the fact a number of Democrat governors actually praising the federal govts response. He was criticised for not getting an aid bill through congress fast enough... turns out that as because Democrats had tried to insert abortion clauses in.... presumably because the Coronavirus virus doesnt kill babies and the Democrats wanted to fix that mistake.
No world leader has handled this perfectly, Trump has made misteps in hind sight. But the Trump derangement that has gripped many means that literally any action he took was going to be criticised.
Your article was unbalanced shite from a bitter never Trumper..If you are going to continually assess what Trump does by looking at everyone else's reactions then how on earth can you claim the high ground and cry about unbalanced views? Do you have a balanced view you can enlighten us with?
Among the hyperbole in the article, which is plain to see and able to be ignored, there are facts. Facts you choose to ignore.
Plot stuff about Trump on a venn diagram and the crossover is where TDS and facts overlap. You seem to think they are exclusive. The derangement appears to be among those that forgive his lying and contradictions in an effort to attack those that don't think he is fit for purpose.Except I don't assess Trump based on reactions of others, that seems to be more your game. Hence why I don't rate that stupid article Voodoo posted and you clearly do.
You claiming I am ignoring facts is nonsense, I could just as easily accuse you of exactly the same thing. So here are the facts.
Trump has contradicted his officials and himself.
Trump has told 'alternate facts' to the public
Trump shut down the very agency set up to deal with this crisis. So without pointing at other peoples actions or opinions, are those points incorrect? Has Trump and his administration handled this well?
There may come a point where many that dismiss all negatives as Trump Derangement Syndrome stop and look at capability. Then again, they might not as it is such a simple way to deflect criticism.
I can see why you like the guy so much. Belittlement, name calling and deflection are common traits.
Those arent facts, they are mainly opinions and spin.
Trump did not shut down the agency that dealt with this sort of thing (that would be the CDC), it was a small team within the national security council under the control of the Whitehouse. And it would have been superseded immediately anyway by a larger group with broader skills and powers. The agency shut down was not going to and was never designed to be the agency to deal with a US pandemic.Notably this is just another misleading claim from Trump haters trying to create a narrative. Not the first time they tried such a stunt.
As for belittling.... your lack of self awareness is astounding. The article you so in favour if is spiteful dishonest and lathered in politics. It disgusts when people try to polticise things like this. I loathe Ardern but I am not going around criticising her approach and any misteps or mistakes she makes, because I think she is acting in good faith and it is a horrible situation. We need to at leats try and get behind the nations leaders, but people ike you are so wrapped in your hatred of Trump, you will never react like that.Everything is always Trumps fault in your world. Give it a rest. This thread doesnt need you and voodoo's stupid political hit job articles.
I guarantee that if National was the govt the left would be screeching and compalining about everything they do, just the way of things.

If it works, it's a master stroke and a small price to pay IMO. Difficult decision to take as an administration too. Because enforcing social distancing by restricting migration is a hammer type approach.
It will be interesting to see the difference, if any, compared to Australia. We have confirmed cases in every state and territory. We actively sought to bring in Chinese students for the start of university semester. We simply don't know how many people have been infected prior to implementing stricter controls.
I had a conference call this morning to discuss work arrangements and what can be achieved given the restrictions imposed by the organisation. That aspect alone will be "exciting" given the narrow windows of opportunity we have.

So NZ case of covid 19 #7 was waiting on a test back in Oz but decided to fly here in the meantime anyway?

Yup it’s idiots like this that make self isolation a hollow response. For every person that does the right thing and does as told there will be plenty more idiots like this guy.
He actually found out he was positive while hanging out in a Wellington cafe..

Are people like this sociopaths or merely didn't grasp the concept of exponential increase at school?

@Virgil Fuckwit. In some ways I wish the govt would shut the borders to all except citizens and residents, and anyone who flies in has to undergo mandatory testing/quarantine at a location until given the all clear. If our spike comes closer to winter, we are fucked. The hospitals are already stretched to capacity with regular stuff, and it hits breaking point in winter with flu etc. Virus as well tips us into disaster zone.

Agree, to me the biggest concern is the complete shut down of public services. If hospitals etc are struggling now ( as per a story the other week) how will they cope once there’s a community outbreak.
And chances are their will be.
Our ‘world class’ health system won’t manage at all
I feel sorry for any expecting couples out there, that must be scary as fuck.We aren’t panic buying but the mrs is mind full to keep a well stocked pantry and fridge. Those with young kids know how much food they stuff down on a daily basis.
No not over stocking on toilet paper, willing to take my chances on that one.. -

I'd be reviewing what questions he was asked at the border and what he told border protection staff.

The dude in Taiwan who flew in from Wuhan, and instead of self quarantining went to a nightclub, got fined $10K. We should do a similar thing. Anyone knowingly threatening our country should have to pay
