@nostrildamus That’s not often said! 😳

@Catogrande I think you can read between the lines
-
@pakman not really up to Biden, impeachment is purely a congressional matter (no pardons or reprieves and Supreme Court has previously ruled that it's non-justiciable). Agree that it's probably not conducive to bipartisan relations in Congress unless enough Republicans decide that this is their opportunity to draw a line under Trump and move on.

My guess is that many are still deciding how big the stench of Trump will be and how long it will last. Probably also depends on how they were aligned with him and what avenues they have to retreat.
I assume that there is a fair bit of behind the scenes stuff going on withing the GOP to strategise a way forward.
One poll of Trump voters has an even thirds split between 'gone way too far', 'should accept things and move on' and 'should stand and fight'. If that is indicative, those numbers are way too big to scratch out of hand and hope on a rebuild.
My view is that the aiders and abetters of Trump tolerated his ways because he was giving them what they wanted (lower taxes for high earners and cutting red tape) but his real support base was a pretend empowerment of the disenfranchised. Now there may be a battle between the economic right and the social right. The second group is not well represented in the party at high levels.
It's going to take some clever thinking to re-order the disruption. -

Genuine question. Was Arnie a vocal anti-Trumper previously?
He's had a few shots at Trump over the years:
Arnold Schwarzenegger counts himself among those who were deeply disappointed by President Trump’s statement that “both sides” were to blame for the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. And in a new video, the former Republican governor of California offers a pointed suggestion for what Trump should have said instead. “The only way to beat the loud and angry voices of hate is to meet them with louder and more reasonable voices. And that includes you, President Trump,” Schwarzenegger says in the video, posted to ATTN’s Facebook page Thursday. “In fact, as president of this great country, you have a moral responsibility to send an unequivocal message that you don’t stand for hate and racism.”

Trump isn't the worst president ever in my view, that's probably one of the clowns from the 1800s (the first few were solid, then the quality dropped, then Lincoln was excellent, then post-Civil War had some absolute disgraces to humanity before Teddy Roosevelt). Trump got plenty of stuff done that is standard Republican fare, so would probably go down as one of the better presidents in terms of getting party policy implemented, albeit with some high profile failures like not being able to repeal the ACA/Obamacare.
Really? Not even Buchanan was seditious.

@nostrildamus @booboo On the Pence thing, whilst it certainly looks like he’s lost the MAGA crowd, come 2024 if he’s the GOP candidate what are the options for those disenfranchised Trumpists? Vote Dem or just not vote I guess. I wonder how many might come round to putting their cross against Pence as the lesser evil.
Not if Trump has anything to do with it, whatever his platform is by then. His followers love him, what would it take for them to abandon him?
Run as an independent? I’m not sure he’d take that much of a risk of becoming a two time loser. Sorry I mean two time victim of fraud.
I mean will he still be spouting his mouth on tik tok or something? And will people still be listening? As a side note it would be ironic if Trump opened a tik tok account
Sorry, misunderstood your point. Though I’d say the same thing still applies to the MAGA crowd. Notwithstanding any spoutings from Trump, if Pence is the GOP candidate, what are their options?
Very good question, I don't follow their logic so I don't know myself. I suspect they will be bored with Pence and some other Republican come lately will try to woo them (I doubt someone like Cruz will be able to but perhaps he will try).
Winger may be a better person to ask.
There won't be any options.
Stalin (maybe) said about voting: "The people who cast the votes don't decide an election, the people who count the votes do."
Joe never got 10 and 15 million more votes than Obama. And 15 million more than Hillary. Its over in the West if Biden (a total puppet who hardly knows where he is) is President . We are into The Great Reset (build back better). Elections will be meaningless.
And all our rights will go. Based on viruses (ever year there will be another killer. As there always has been) and climate change (the climate always changes). And any dissenting viewpoint will be closed down (as is now being done but it will just be ramped up with big fines etc).
Build back better means for the elites (as it was during 2020 with the elites wealth massively increasing). Not for us. We will just become human cattle. Forced to carry our passport after we have the monthly / 3 monthly or whatever shot. Or daily if they can perfect this technology (all for our own good of course)
Some will love being looked after like children (WEF - 2030 you won't own any property etc) but after the economy collapses (as it will) discontent will set in. By then though I will likely be too old to care much. But I feel sorry for the young today. My generation let it happen. The young today will pay the price

Man it must be depressing to be you.
The world has never been better than it is today by any sensible measure. Sure there are issues to solve, but there always have been.
I for one would have liked to see the GOP hold the Senate for some balance, but I don't hold the view that 4 years of Dems is going to unleash all hell on the world from Russia, China and Iran, nor that they will permanently destroy the domestic economy.
Things will continue to turn and we on the Fern will continue to argue about it. That's the great thing about this place - one of us is always right about everything sometimes.

well said, I have learnt a lot about the good things Trump achieved through this thread, I think I said a while back I was surprised the Reps didn't find someone with a less repulsive personality that could/would just implement the same policy
I am a firm centralist, voted both Labour and National back home over the years based on what they were campaigning on at the time, I can see real benefits in both
Dem v Rep seem more extreme and so when talking about them I find its almost which one hasn't gone too far, too extreem

I think there are more extreme elements in both parties that have views about social issues which the other side find unpalatable (SJWs and woke elements are things that the far right everyday common Trumpite find abhorent for example). The thing I find odd is that poorer white Republicans among others don't find merit in things that will actually benefit them, like subsidized or free to all healthcare for example, things that the GOP are strongly against

The problem was they never wanted him. A lifelong Democrat who stole the show, assisted by Democrat supporting media and all of a sudden the world wakes up to a reality TV host who is everything the dumb poor thinks being a rich New Yorker should be.
The only thing I liked about Trump was his attempt to get out of the Middle East and meaningless conflicts in direct contrast to his predecessor.
