You'd laugh but there has been a report about a tanker driver getting assaulted as some bloke thought he was trying to jump the queue!
Been a lot of issues with people refusing to allow tankers through so they don't lose their spot in the queue ...
St Austell on Friday. Story going around is the manager/owner turned off the pumps and shut the station in revenge.
Then there's this clown.
And people want to prevent covid from thinning the herd.

I like the idea, except that doesn't deal with the dickhead who rocks up with his plastic bag in a bucket for a few extra litres.

One of the big reasons for the HGV Driver shortage is Rishi Sunak's change to taxation for freelance drivers where they are now pay tax plus employers and employees National Insurance.
Increase tax rates from 20-40% to an effective 46 - 56% on workers who don't get holiday pay or sick leave in a tough industry with an average age of 50+, and they then wonder why they leave and you get a shortage of drivers.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

The forecourt will deal with that
Or it will where I live

First I’ve heard of that.
If only Starmer had concentrated on finding that information instead of fucking about with the cervix and a female Bond

Taxation of freelance workers (IR35) is an absolute scandal.
They not only pay the same tax and NI as a permanent employee but additionally pay employers NI (14%) - but they get none of the things a permanent employee gets like pensions rights, annual leave, maternity pay or sick pay. It affects industries which need flexible working, seasonal working and who need specific expertise for short periods of time. Like tanker drivers.
Both Labour and the Tories are to blame, but Sunak has really screwed the self-employed and deserves a lot of blame for labour shortages and labour market bottlenecks
If only Starmer had concentrated on finding that information instead of fucking about with the cervix and a female Bond
He fully supports it.

The madness of crowds.
Filled up the car today at our local, independent garage. Chatting to the owner, she told me they saw about a 200-300% increase in sales volume and about 400% in car numbers last week. They were never, ever short of fuel but got quite low.
Since Saturday, sales have plummeted to about 25% of normal and she's cancelled her regular delivery.....

Interesting stance from Boris these last couple of days.
Clear narrative to get people to try and solve their own problems. Be it logistical supply, lack of workers etc. With a very firm "we aren't going down the imported labour path".
I can see the point he's making & I do agree that it's long overdue that people start owning their own issues and not just blaming everything on the government. This follows on from Sunak's "teach a man to fish" budget. Too many people sat on their arses between 2016-2020 just assuming that all Brexit changes would be sorted by the government. Yes, Boris wanted this, yes, Boris campaigned for this but that doesn't make it his responsibility to deal with every single fallout from it.
But I'm not sure this is the right political strategy ...

It isn't a great strategy, but then again, there isn't a viable opposition right now so he can chance his arm.
People do need to become more self-sufficient. I tire of hearing ppl on TV and radio asking for more govt inquiries, more govt intervention, more govt bureaucracy, like it is the only idea open to them. most times govts get involved it ends up with poorly thought out solutions that cost exorbitant amounts of money.
The magic money tree isn't a viable solution, so ppl are going to have to think for themselves and find alternative answers to their problems. In the long run, it'll stimulate some new ideas and benefit society and hopefully result in the government and civil service shrinking and focusing on things that make a real difference to peoples lives.

There's another thread running thru BoJo's approach which is many firms have gone down the cheap imported labour for years and haven't done much to improve productivity or invest in training - and he's absolutely bang-on calling them out for it and telling them it has to change.
But, as you say, making it happen is going to be tricky and a very bumpy ride and offers a really big opportunity for Labour to tell voters they can be trusted more to deliver improved wages. But knowing Starmer and his lot, they'll spend more time criticising the colour of the net rather than put the ball in the back of it.

Agree, that was one of the selling points of Brexit to the voters, that there would be less migration and more jobs for locals. He's absolutely right to hold the line on this.

Veteran Conservative MP Sir David Amess was murdered today while holding a surgery in his constituency in Southsea, Essex.
May he rest in peace.
The Essex police have arrested a 25 year old man. Some news organisations are reporting he is a Somali national.
