I am betting (along with many others) that Apple are developing a vehicle. If that is the case, it will be a huge risk and a long term proposition.

I think its more likely they'll simply buy the underlying basics with their $200b of cash. A step in for Volkswagon for example wouldn't bother them. Nor on a different tack Netflix, although NF is massively over-valued, unlike VW. I'm betting their R&D spend is not on a vehicle, its on an operating unit you drop into a vehicle. So then they just need the vehicle, come on down VW...

I have been reading quite a bit on the ethics of driver less cars. Quite fascinating stuff, and not easily solved. And there no consensus on it at all. So I think whilst it is almost inevitable and sooner than many think, the implementation will be..... tumultuous.

And whilst Gollums theory makes practical sense... I just dont see Apple letting others design cars and they just provide the 'OS' .. they would love to invent a curved bumper.

That was good laugh to start the day! You're spot on though - they'd probably be as excited about designing the chassis as the tech elements.

Out of interest what model of Surface do you have? A lot of the lower end models only have 4GB of RAM that cannot be upgraded, which makes me worry about performance.

The bumper & the go faster stripes can be all Apple. But the drive shaft, suspension, gear box sure as feck won't be. Same way you buy a SEAT you are geting 80% of a Volkswagon. Or a Porche for that matter.

The bit that I think will be a massive issue with self drive is pedestrians walking in front of them. If the car stops thats good... but if pedestrians know the car will stop why would you not just cross the road whenever you wanted? Even now I can't drive through London without some jeans round his arse jobless Dappy-alike slouching across the street knowing I'll break for him. So central cities will be one huge gridlock as douche bags stroll out whenever they want. Might mean that cops move from getting cash from traffic stops to getting cash from jay-walking. Will also mean that countries that already never jay walk will have a first mover advantage - eg Switzerland, some of the Nordics.

Don't really know quite how they propose to run them, but I'd think an order of a fleet of 200 from Bert Smith, Damascus would be troubling.

Along with taxi drivers, courier drivers and chauffeurs - I'd imagine suicide bombers would become a bit redundant.

I (stupidly) briefly opened the link on an email I thought was from someone on my contacts list, until I realised afterwards that it was not his email address, and it took me to some non-descript news looking website. I closed it off immediately, ran ESET NOD scan and all appeared OK. I've noticed no change in internet or PC performance. Should I be concerned people of the Fern?

Depends. If the link you followed was a script or a link. You won't know that now. If it was a script you might be in trouble. If it was a link that led to a page with scripts embedded and you didn't interact with it... you are prob fine.

I think it was likely just a link as scripts and links to execs are usually busted by your OS or email client.

I would bet on you bring fine.

What @Baron-Silas-Greenback said, as long as you didn't interact with the website then you should be all good.

Thanks mate. It looked like a "news" page, I didn't click on anything else, just got out of dodge and deleted the email. These Nigerians are clever!! 😉
