Should the Crusaders change their name?

@Virgil it’s good someone has leaked it so those piston wristed gibbons can squirm. Nothing a politician fears more than an unpopular decision.
Look at all the hiding they do about the CGT now that polls have come out with 65% against. They are cowards.

Well the author of the article is certainly getting the desired outcome....
Just heard the CE of the crusaders on the radio - said this was untrue, that was then backed up by messages out of the PM's office and from minister of sport. They all said no truth to it - Govt is leaving this to the Crusaders and NZ rugby. The CE did not waffle at all about it - he was cut and dried about zero influence and that they have their process to follow.
So we can take it that all involved are lying and rely on the 'sources close to the crusaders say X' that there is heat coming from the Govt to dictate the outcome, or accept that someones bullshitting for clicks... interesting its one of those articles that doesn't have an authors name on it...

and I get that of course they would deny any pressure etc. But this does come across as bullshit - and it flies in the face of how things have been handled by all involved to date imo.

Does it? The govt have been incredibly active in attacking freedoms since the attack.

Well someone is not telling the truth.
Given Tew has come out with the "untenable" statement it would lend weight to the "already been decided argument", as much as "unnnamed sources" are an argument against the alternative.
Personally I'm inclined to believe that there is pressure from high places.

This is what I meant when I said this issue is at best divisive and will only build resentment towards Muslims, most of whom do not even care about the name of a bloody rugby team.
And it all started from media reporting anonymous twitter SJWs for clicks. There is nothing to be gained from this, and plenty to lose.

“The clubs name has become a toxic symbol for many” really ? Who, who says it’s toxic?

Got a bunch of Facebook friends sharing the petition online.
Funny how they care so much about this, but don’t care enough to ever attend an actual game.
Because this looks like an actual contest

Fuck this guy:
"The name-change pressure emerged because of the centuries-old sensitivity over the history of the Crusades, which were bloody medieval conflicts between Muslims and Christians.
"So these are really striking figures and what they tell us is that a very small proportion of New Zealanders understand the deep history of conflict between Muslims and Christians that the word Crusade means," historian Peter Lineham told TVNZ."
I don't think this result means Kiwis are uneducated; simply that many don't see the need to extend historical events to a rugby team. Treating the overwhelming majority as - I think they are trying to say - redneck racists (especially Cantabs & National voters) doesn't help at all.
