Max Bania (Barnya) had a career as a Cricket Journalist with TVNZ and Al Jazeera. He now does the PR for Westpac and runs a lot:

and pretty much posted drunk around 75% of the time he was here..

As opposed to the rest of us???😂😂😂

I would never post drunk .

Ok , apart from right now and pretty much every test match involving the abs . Fortunately I’m also banned from Amazon when I drink after clicking on “ I’d you like this you might also be interested in this” and mystery packages turning up .

Barnya took posting drunk to heroic levels , 75% is a low estimate. I remember him councilling me through the ethics of Xmas work dos after I got hammered and ended up getting texts from the 21 year old receptionist the morning after and I couldn’t remember the lies I told her the night before.

If there’s a fern hall of fame he belongs there.

He was an angry young man and not someone to mess with. Recall him telling a story of how some yobos yelled at him when driving past. My recollection is that he happened across the same car a bit later and proceeded to let down the tires and piss all over it.

In terms of posting drunk, @NTA had some absolute pearlers.

IIRC I found the Fern via PR circa 2002. Bartman made me a mod I think 2003? All I know is that I was about 24, sexy AF and drunk on power.

    Ah, the good old days.

    and now you're??.....

Much older. Bisexual. Getting paid to write historical kinky sex books and watch a lot of porn. So pretty much living my best life, although if the US and UK would calm the fuck down, so people would chill and read more books, that would be excellent.

There was a strong BOP contingency when I first started lurking. Don, Baron and KP are still around, but recall several others. Wille the Weka?

@ACT-Crusader - Weka was one of the Thames Valley Mafia along with @Fonzie and Bart, but we co-opted them in as Bay fans 🙂 . @aucklandwarlord was also on the terraces at Eden Park on a certain day that we might have mentioned once or twice. @King-Goober-XL was another regular Bay fan around that time.

In 2004 @bayimports finally got to (mostly) bury the memories - and end of game footage of him - from the stands at Eden Park in 1996...

Unlike Steve Braunias with his ongoing 'Secret Diary' series, @JP & I eventually figured out that there's only so many Day in the Life satires that you can write before you start repeating the same gags in a different guise. Think we did either five or six of them in the end - they were all a huge amount of fun to write - with plenty of stifled laughs at work as iterative e-mail versions were sent back and forth. The one for Phooey included a couple of local knowledge lines about the Hong Kong rugby scene from @BartMan - it was the first one we did and the content flowed quickly! 🙂

Mountie @brain-man made a few Bay related posts from London in the mid 2000's but was sadly lost to a car accident on the Kaimai ranges in 2009. For those in Hamilton there's a memorial bench dedicated to him outside College Hall on the Waikato Uni campus: https://www.wu.ac.nz/fmd/memorial_trees_plaques.shtml - Brains was a good keen Varsity man and an absolutely top bloke.

Remember tighthead from the early days? I arrived just as he was in the last days of his posting.

There was a Maori IT guy who was into metal and prog (King Crimson). I remember when Thomopedia went on a massive, and stupid, rant about how catholic he was because that guy quoted Will Ferrell's "by the knights of colombus!" line rather than "knights of colombanus", yet Thomo didn't realise it was a correctly quoted line from an American film (where they are the knights of colombus).

We all have our bad days ... 😉

PdP was a good guy, but his line about the 2011 world cup that NZ couldn't win because we didn't have the tight forwards, especially locks, was LOL-worthy.

Whitelock and Thorn were greats, and better than any French locks of the professional era.

Then I did have my massive trolls about Ben Smith that proved to be ... ah ... somewhat wrong.

There was a geophysicist from Wellington/Victoria Uni who did his PhD at ETH Zurich, and moved to Canada.

    Was an interesting poster.
