@Snowy yeah, I think so too, but another shrill voice commentating on the unconscionable crime of quoting the bible
He's always been outspoken. Probably how he got to where he is.
As for quoting the bible - when your employer tells you to STFU may be you should? Hence the second time around comment.

I think an organised protest against Qantas to cut ties with state-run airlines like Qatar Airways would he incredibly powerful. Unlike many recent protests it would have a clear stated aim that would leave them nowhere to hide.
Yeah I agree that Qantas are hypocritical. They have ties with Emirates, Qatar, Brunei but what Joyce said holds water.
Not many airlines will enter a political debate, it is about money and rights. Having to fly around airspace costs a shitload of money for example. The only time that an airline has been held to account (banned) in my memory has been safety issues not political , human rights, etc. Whether that is correct from a moral standpoint, probably not - but money.
Qantas entered this political debate immediately. They need to be put back in their box
It would have been wiser I think. I wouldn't be calling them hypocrites if they STFU as well as Phillow.
That is where the free speech argument comes in as I mentioned previously.

Quote from openly gay Qantas CEO, Joyce:
"It's not an issue for Qantas, it's an issue for every potential sponsor for Rugby Australia, ever," he said. "They have to manage it . . . and shame on you if it happens a second time. That's the way we approach it in the aviation industry, and we expect these organisations to be the same."
Yeah Alan, same thing as a plane crash
Passive aggressive threat to the ARU much?

He’s a lay preacher and wants to bring people to God. I don’t buy his beliefs, but it hardly seems surprising. Maybe his Lord and his Bible means more to him than rugby does. Maybe he feels his blessings or condemnations (however you look at it) would have more eyeballs and more impact when he’s in the prime of his athletic career rather than when he’s an old has-been. People are trying to rationalize and speculate over a man that has completely different beliefs than the rest of us. I guess it would be so much easier if everybody thought exactly the same, and anybody who oversteps those boundaries is shamed into compliance. “The nail that sticks up will be hammered down” works in Japan, but has never been a partcularly Christian value since the day Jesus walked into the banks threw a tantrum and overturned the tables. That was a deplorable act of rebellion, too.

Which is hardly mental. David Kirk and Michael Jones both massively deprioritized rugby for other things.

Depends if Rugby Australia is a competent well run organisation

RA - between a rock and a hard place.

I think they are screwed. But with his devotion to god and being able to share his message I wonder if Foal-ow has thought much about the ripple effect for RA in terms of staff and financial impact. He says this isn't about money, but if his court action cripples RA that's a massive cost (literally) to all involved in the sport. I get that from his perspective that's a non issue as it's about expressing his beliefs. But far out this will impact a big number of folks as it works its way towards a messy conclusion.

Fair point... but maybe QANTAS and ARU could have had similar thoughts....

@Baron-Silas-Greenback absolutely. Surely that will come out as Castle exits, as well as any other leaders who made a call on how to proceed with this. But I do feel for them a smidge as while they are coming out of this looking inept and/or poorly advised, it did sound like they had been quite compassionate about their approach early on in the piece.
As @antipodean said it's a rock and a hard place!!

Would be ironic if they were financially crippled when the main reason for them sanctioning Føøhöw is to avoid sponsors pulling their cash. What a shit show. I can't believe they had nothing in writing.
