The accepted narrative for this one is going to be very interesting to see (and by interesting, i expect i actually mean disgusting).

I'll have $10 to win on #4 "more Guns for God Fearing White Folks, and less for Faggy Minorities" thank you
-

I really don't have much to say about shootings in the USA. They are just par for the course.

Was only a matter of time before one of these shooting was done on a live news feed.
-
Obviously if the reporter and cameraman had been allowed to pack heat then none of this would have happened. Same goes for those people gunned down in church.

Well that's the "logic" the NRA will use.

Sure there'll be the usual talk about gun control but is there really even any point in the US? With millions of weapons already in circulation would it make any difference? -

No point at all. The US is way beyond gun control. The article Tim posted above is worth a read.

-

If only that camera had a silenced semi-automatic gun of some kind mounted next to the boom mic...

Was watching a show on ABC here called "Brat Camp" - about people in 'Murica without the ability to parent, sending their kids away for discipline. The guy running the camp said the results vary, but a lot of it depends on how the parent takes up the reins at home.

I think it should have been re-titled "Brat Camp: How to Create Future School Shootings Through Under-Parenting And Mental Distress"
-

hearing different reports...TV1 said 15 dead, radio said 10...but the 20 injured is consistent.

The gunman apparently is in custody.

Ironically, this is another instance of a psychopath's discrimination -- like Marc Lepine, who when opening fire in a classroom in Montreal and separating boys from girls and only shooting the latter -- saved lives by sparing a protected species.

If he'd been a politically correct liberal equal-opportunity psychopath, the death toll could have easily doubled.
-

And...

See if all college kids brought guns to class none of this would ever happen.
-

JUst saw on the news, American schools do shooter-drills like our kids do earthquake drills, if that doesnt tell you there is a problem, I dunno what does!

Apparently another shooting in Florida, 3 dead including the gunman.
-

Right - roll out the Muslim rhetoric Gerald; this bloke hated Christians.

College campus in that case was a gun-free zone, so the whackos from the NRA have a ready-made argument. Saw a grab of Obama's presser and the guy looks equal parts fucking ropeable and resigned.

Nothing will happen. The Military-Industrial Complex makes a handy sideline in firearms sales and they have their dicks in the mouth of too many politicians. I watched Jim Jeffries again just to cheer myself up, but then saw another clip of him off-air at a radio station trying not to tell one of the hosts he was not a fuckhead when the guy said "I'd gladly shoot anyone who broke into my house or yours, if I was your neighbour". Jeffries was trying to make the point that shooting or killing someone even fucks police up mentally, and they're trained to do it.

I don't think I could be that diplomatic, and I'm not against guns. I'm just against handing them out like candy for a couple of hundred bucks.
-

Gun culture, like racism, is too deeply embedded in the American psyche. (A friend of mine just returned from Florida, segregated beaches, getting kicked out of a bar for protesting when the bartender called a patron a nigger, it's real).

If anything was going to instigate real change, you'd think the murder of all those babies at Sandy Hook would have been horrific enough. But since then, there have been over 140 school shootings.

America is one seriously scary, fucked up country. I do feel sorry for Obama, can you imagine what he thinks every time an aide knocks on the door and says 'Mr President, there has been another mass shooting'.

There will always be a 'reason'. They were black. They were women. They were Muslim. They were Christians. The gunman was mentally ill blah blah blah. Instead of focusing on why he did it, they need to look at how COULD he do it. Easy, unfettered access to guns and a whole lot of festering hate.
-

Sandy Hook was certainly when I realised that nothing was going to change for a long time.

I disagree with this though. I lived in the SF Bay Area for three years, and I wouldn't describe it as scary. I was more worried about crime when I was living in Paris.
-

Yeah, you have to wonder if this is really what "freedom" is supposed to look like.

Guns?.........or is that the least of the problems?
