I felt sorry for Blackadder,Grace,Whitelock,Barrett and Taylor who played their hearts out to be let down by bad decision making behind them.
Highlanders dominated the breakdown. Most of the Highlanders pack out played their opposites

Gotta say when the Saders managed to get a penalty for taking someone out in the air I figured it was business as usual. Awesome from the Landers and good to see the likes of Mo'unga and Jordan actually have to play under some pressure for a change. Hope they learn from that, though with Mo'unga he's been a possum in the headlights quite a few times now when things aren't going to plan, so not particular encouraging given his experience now that he didn't take the bull by the horns and get his team back on track.
We really don't have a world class 10 at the moment.

Been pondering this. Are we doing what Aus cricket did after Warnie? Obviously the all time greatest 1st 5 any of us will see in our lifetime is 6 years gone but are we assessing fairly?
Crusaders reminded me of when the ABs shit the bed, it's unconscionable all those guns could play so limply.
Hurricanes could cop it, or, they could see how shit the Crusaders can be and smack them twice in a row.

@dolamite What a twat. That's racism from Joe Wheeler. He adds nothing but cringe.
Oh fuck off. You really get that offended when @nta mocks your kiwi accent? It's not fucken racism, don't be ridiculous.
the fuck happened?
Anyway - well done Clan. Finally the officials had a good look at the Saders' bullshit and decided enough was enough.
The Cantabs were also off colour tonight. Jordan was shit. Havili not much better. Mounga absent. Blackadder had a crack but the rest were fairly meh.
Himeno is worth his weight in gold for the Clan.

HELL YEAH!
Missed the game live, we’re in Sydney for Easter, phone started buzzing after the game had finished so when I made it to bed I watched the reply
God I loved that, can’t add much that hasn’t been mentioned, not going to claim we’re world beaters, we forced a lot of mistakes through great pressure but the saders were also just a bit off the pace, what I will take from it is we punished them when they did make mistakes, we learnt from the game in dunners
@Bones willing to start a Kickstarter to fund me travelling for each game?...pretty sure I missed the chiefs one live too

Genuine question, what is the bullshit you are referring to that the refs decided enough was enough on last night? IIRC the most contentious decision (Jordan) went in favour of the Saders. As for the penalty count, the Saders seem to have been penalised quite a bit this year. Was the penalty count higher than usual?

Yep they dominated the breakdown but the-players I mentioned still put in a good shift for the Crusaders but the the pack as a whole were outplayed.

This game reminded me of many games we have seen in different sports over the years. One team comes out extremely focused after off field dramas and the other team guilty of not being as primed as they should have been.
Next week will be interesting. Can the Crusaders play better next week or have some cracks emerged that other teams will now exploit? Can the Highlanders back it up an show they are a better team than they have shown so far?

I agree that the comment was off the mark. Saders continued their bullshit but it didn’t work this time.
I actually wonder at times if they have a ‘safe word” to call when the defence is out of control and they are at risk of conceding a try.
There certainly seems to be zones where they “deliberately “ get penalised when under the pump. Within the tram lines just outside the 22 seems to be the usual place.
Just far enough out that the ref doesn’t get triggered into YCs and the opposition have a tricky kick or have to take them on in a line out mail.
I’m not saying that it’s cheating but it definitely is bullshit.
As I said during the game it reminds me of the end of a basketball game. Deliberately fouling to force the issue and get the ball back. -

@crucial smart rugby like the all blacks play
Exactly. I'm not knocking that kind of play, that's actually extraordinary discipline.
-
@kiwiwomble I'm good bro, was the first game with our new blinds installed. You're welcome.
-
IMO you could argue that Gregory slowed Jordans impact into CGB, certainly dont see anythign to indicate he made the situation any worse.
Jordan was never going to get to the ball first, so IMO he got it all wrong, and if not for the brush with Gregory he likely have hit CGB slightly harder and earlier, when Jordan has pushed past Gregory and 'leapt' toward CGB he already had posession, he had plenty of time to pull out of that.
Sure what Gregory did was silly a deserved a penalty, but either way, the wrong call was made in the end.
-
@taniwharugby couldn't agree more. The crime was sticking the arm out - if Will doesn't do that, then it's a penalty against Gregory.
Terrible call by the referees

I don’t think we often play it that way to such a planned and deliberate tactic. Sure, it happens. I’m not claiming that it doesn’t. That doesn’t take away the fact that it’s negative play, deliberate infringing and refs should cotton on to it.
-
@crucial other sides would disagree.
I don't think it's a core of our game, but smart rugby teams know when and how to infringe to slow things down.
Rugby is cheating better than your opponents. It's just how the game is played. I don't love it, but that's what it is

I'd say it is playing the ref better than your opposition rather than cheating.

Eh, potato potato. It's finding where the line is and living on it. You find it by crossing it... You're absolutely right, but it's semantics
