There is no excuse for hitting a woman. None. Bloody cowardly behaviour.
But he clearly has a problem, as he has form for doing really really dumb shit while on the piss.I bet every
rugby clubsocial group in the country has a 'Zac Guilford' amongst them. Real nice guy when sober, get a couple of beers into them and they turn into absolute maggots.Guildford is one of thousands of drunken boofheads in this country, so the problem is bigger then just Zac Guilford.
What to do? No idea. That's why I'm not a politician.
Edit: I see now, he was extremely intoxicated.
Ridiculous statement. Virtue signalling. There are prisons with women who have stabbed people to death. Why separate women from people?
Of course I don't agree with indiscriminate violence against anybody but to suggest there are no self defence situations involving women is blatant old style misogyny.
Bill Burr does a good bit on that topic.

I got physically attacked by a crazy bitch at the Auckland Casino once. It was quite bizarre and whilst I did feel like smacking her right in the chops I did the wise thing and held her at bay with my reach and signalled to security who kindly threw her out.
I’m such an old fashioned gentleman.

I do often wonder how far away we are from laws crimes against woman (violence etc) being evened up in the interest of equality.

I had two women fight each other in a business meeting once. Bloody scary - didn't have a clue how to respond.

I just shouted "help" and let the other women at the meeting sort it out.

Mental illness causes many victims, and unfortunately some of those victims also cause other victims. It's bloody awful.
Each time, I hope he'll manage to deal with it better and not drink, but as with many others with mental illness and addictions, he'll relapse.Great post.
Yeah, Mental illness is a life-long struggle with ups and downs. Not excusing his behavior, but wish him well in his fight.
Being well-known in NZ certainly doesn't help. It's a fish bowl.
I have a famous sporting cousin and the fish-bowl almost wrecked her marriage and damaged her health. And that was in pre-Social Media days.

My parents were at a concert in Auckland once and a lady in front of them decided to hit my mother (with a closed fist).
My old man floored her and apparently her guy didn’t bother trying it on. I wonder if that relationship lasted 😬
My parents are coming up on 55 years

While I'm glad that Zac seems to be turning his life around at last, he is VERY lucky to have received the leniency he has considering his rap sheet over the past decade or so. And I kind of hate the fact that 'possible future rugby employment' still holds so much sway in court.
The path of Joe Anybody with same rap sheet would have been very different. Sportspeople aren't entitled to their career. They should face consequences same as anyone else for violent offences, especially repeat ones. -
It’s weird isn’t it. You violently assault someone or sell drugs and you deserve a second or third chance, but you write or say something that offends someone (or God forbid tease someone about their accent) and you get cast out of society.
I’d much rather be teased than punched in the face, but maybe that’s just me.

@crucial I think his rap sheet is actually pretty clean, he has a conviction for drink driving....other than that he has no other convictions. The Rarotonga incident was an employment incident.... I would expect Joe Public with the same background to be treated similarly...the fact he has been a shit employee over a long time doesn't come into it.

@Mokey would need a GOW thread wouldn't she? I have just assumed gender, oh shit.
Maybe we need all of the letters. GOL, GOG, GOB, GOT, GOQ, GOI, GOA. Threads for everyone pissed off at the world. Probably missed one and pissed someone off right there.Interesting thing about the violence against women thing above - my wife attributes bad behaviour by women to the fact that they don't get smacked in the face if they act up. I'm talking public situations, not domestic violence. In a pub type thing, where some bloke has a go at another bloke he is likely to get a broken nose, whereas a woman gets away with it, and learns that she can.
My minor gender psychology comment for the day.
