Only thing I would change is to skip The Empire State Building. Hit up the Top of the Rock instead. If you go up the ESB obviously you don't get a view of the ESB which is impressive to see from that height.

The ferry to the Statue of Liberty is also considered overrated. Seeing the statue close up apparently isn't any more impressive than seeing it from the water.

For sure, plenty of other great views to be had of the ESB tho

The Staten Island ferry is even cheaper

Whatever you do, don't do the staten island ferry (free). A guy I worked with told me it was a great free way to get a close up view of the statue. Which is true, but it's also a long time wasted spent on a really shitty ferry with a bunch of trashy people and absolute trash.

I hit him up when I returned, and he laughed, saying he couldn't believe I did that.

As others have said, deffo do Top of the Rock vs Empire State for view/crowd purposes.

Good shoes are a must as you'll walk miles, which is part of the fun. Avoid the subway, terrible compared to other cities.

Hit up Corner Bistro, best burger I have ever tasted.

Do the absurdly overpriced horse and carriage around Central Park. So cliche but so awesome.

Do a big loop boatride down the hudson, up the east river to central park, then back down and out to the state of liberty.

There is a cool place you can rent kayaks on the Hudson basically across from where you're staying, where you can paddle out into the river and get greats views back to Manhatten. Also a cool driving range on a dock with a huge netting cage which is fun.

I disagree about the Metro, do it. If only so that you can think about all the movies an stuff that relate to it.

Yeah, it was pretty cool seeing locations from The Warriors and other action movies.

The subway is fine, except late at night perhaps. And just like on TV or the movies cabs are hard to come by late

I would also check to see what other live concerts are on while you are there. Being one of the centres of the world there are always great bands in town

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge then have lunch/dinner at Gramaldi's just off the bridge on the Brooklyn side. Legitimately the best non-Chicago style pizza I've had in my life.

As others have said Top of The Rock is far superior Empire State (best photo opportunities are at very top of the lookout too, so don't worry too much when you first get there snapping pictures through the perspex).

If you are going to go to Shake Shake just don't go to the flagship one near Times Square - lines are 1/4 elsewhere.

Took a boat trip once with a mob called Circle Line - they basically did a horseshoe around lower manhattan. Very cool, killed multiple birds with one stone - got very close to statue of liberty, got a good history lesson, got some of the best pics etc. Brought a few beers from the drug store across the street and brought them on and we just enjoyed the 2 hours or so.

If you are going to try and see any TV shows if you look the few days before (especially day before) and you likely still can get tickets online. Check around 9-10am EST and you will have a good shot.

One of our friends knows the plan, and is booking the horse and carriage in CP for us.

Cheers for all the suggestions guys, appreciate. Have definitely heard that Top of the Rock is the go.

I enjoyed heading over to see the statue of liberty, didn't get a chance to climb inside as it had just had renovations and tickets were booked weeks in advance. Shows are a winner with the lady-folk too.

Yeah I had exactly the same experience. Was pretty impressive close up still.
