It would be sensible to have some like-for-like replacements in key positions like centre. Losing Rieko would completely change the potency of the midfield and backline for the worse. Sullivan will get his chance for the Māori if he doesn't make the ABs. A strong performance in those games will help his cause.

So how many AB careers end today? Bridge would have to be the obvious candidate, but there are a few others that are 50/50 for selection, and others who could have the Māori lifeline (overlooked but not completely).

Liam Napier picking Sotutu to miss out

That makes no sense at all, he is the form loose forward in NZ, there is no way Frizzel should be ahead of him.

Napier is also going for an extra outside back instead of a loose forward. That makes no sense, given the attrition rate for the loosies.

Fozzie will no doubt think differently because he has form for not taking selection risks.

And then not taking selection risks becomes a risk in itself when you stay with the same old same old

    Frizell ahead of Sotutu?
Wow! That paywall really has some "special" contact behind it.

The Stuff blog is saying that TJP isn't in the AB squad. Not a big surprise, if correct.

    Also:

Speaking of new caps... more breaking news for you...

Stuff understands Highlanders halfback Folau Fakatava will be named, while Blues duo Stephen Perofeta and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be there as well.

Not shocking that revelation, he probably guessed and hopes he's correct 😉
