@Rocky-Rockbottom I didn't realise that creature in that meme was a guy for about a year after I first saw it. Then I didn't feel so bad about wanting to punch its face every time I saw it
Well how about that! I didn't realise until now.
Man oh man is he not man

I actually thought Devoy's comments were fine.
The comment was undoubtedly casual racisim, and in the post she has to be seen to be against it.
This whole story is classic 5 minutes of fame. The Butcher knows this and I think also knows that if he shuts up, it'll just blow over. Can't feed the flames.

OK I had to google the term casual racism as it sounded stupid and this is what google says:
Casual racism is one form of racism. It refers to conduct involving negative stereotypes or prejudices about people on the basis of race, colour or ethnicity. Examples include jokes, off-handed comments, and exclusion of people from social situations on the basis of race.
Does anyone know exactly what his comment was? From what I gather he said Waiheke Island was a "white mans island too" in response to her statement that she was Tangata Whenua with the land.
How is that either racism or as Devoy says "casual racism"? Exactly what stereotypes or prejudices is he pushing?
I have a problem with Lara Bridger for trying to find racism where it doesn't exist and then complaining on social media. I have a problem with MSM picking that up and making it a story. I have a problem with Boag being a complete fucking idiot (she has a degree in Political Science.. go figure) and I have a problem with Devoy even being employed let alone using idiotic terms like "casual racism".
This whole scenario has played out over and over in a number of western countries over the past couple of years. It's a big reason why someone like Trump has risen to power in the States. A large number of people are fucking fed up with this bullshit and other dumb ideas like "if you're white, you're racist, you just don't know it".
The whole thing is a complete non-story that SJWs have blown into a big event in their constant quest to prove that everything and everyone is racist.

Careful fellas. Does this person actually identify as being male? Looks very non-binary. You might get sued if you don't use the approved pronoun.

Two things. Why are you referring to us all as " fellas"? Also less of the mansplaning thanks.

Because the way you're talking about that possibly non-binary zhe indicates that you're all insidious white males. Check your privilege whitey.

Fuck me days. You can tell it is no news slump season, when non stories like this get so much platform. Leitch has apologised, but apparently nowadays in NZ it has to be a tearful, chest beating, hair tearing thing or it's not enough. (On a side note, for a PR person, Michelle Boag, your comment was pretty fucktard too.)
And also: Dame Susan, you were a squash legend, but you are useless as a Race Relations Commissioner. Fuck off.
-
Reckon it was rascist. He was disparaging about us white guys.
Fuck I hate stroppy people desparate to take offence for offence sake.
-
BTW does that mean I own Waiheke?
-
good to see this is still getting headlines, although not for the right reasons. What should be a story is the subject of this thread title and the fact Social media has created a pretty messed up world.
As is the modern way, Bridger reported the exchange on social media, but felt she had to remove the post when Leitch became the target of nasty and threatening comments.

Well looks like the whole country is getting on the racist bandwagon according to the perpetually butthurt. Fuck a duck, imagine the furore if she was indeed a foreign citizen and recieved subsidised care when she shouldnt have? ……
Newsflash dickwads. He sounds foreign. She looks AND sounds foreign. It's not racist to say that, it's a fact and if they don't like someone asking standard questions and doing their due diligence then perhaps they should indeed 'fuck off back to their own countries'
fluffybunnies like these probably thought Moana was racist too.

What a crock of shit. DHB's around the country have been stung by foreign citizens getting treatment then skipping away without paying their sizable bills. Of course a practice should show due diligence when it comes to checking - the practice manager would be fucking pissed if they had to cover an unpaid bill. Especially in the case of a casual patient whose NHI number couldn't be found on the database!!
Stories like this really fuck me off. When I lived overseas and needed medical care, I showed my resident visa and health card to prove I was entitled to the cheap local rate. It's no fucking different.
-
Tourists and illegal imigrants can get NZ drivers licences now huh?
The woman showed her DL as identification.
The receptionist was at fault here.
The patient has ben here slightly less years than Lydia Ko. The patient has suficiently met the NZ criteria for being a resident, why is she in any way blameworthy for the fraudulent use of health services
Agree its hardly newsworthy but whats the patient done wrong?

Seriously Siam, do some research. Because YES visitors can get NZ drivers licence....You are wrong and the receptionist was correct.
The patient has been an obnoxious bitch.
It does illustrate the ineptness/dishonesty of the media though... why didnt the journalist educate readers that the receptionist was correct? That a DL is about as much proof of residency as a Starbucks loyalty card? b There will be lots of people like Siam who needed that information.

Perhaps even delve deeper into the DHB register database as to how a receptionist can't find a surname in the search function.
The head of the clinic surmised it could have been a spelling discrepancy.
No mention of the two parties engaging in a simple discussion of "let me try to find you in the system, how do you spell..." Then a DL would have been sufficient right?
Interesting that a passport will unlock the database info but not a DL

I've not turned up on their system before, but it's not even about that. Some people have to show proof to avoid abuse of the system.
That's a responsible system.
She looks Thai, sounds Thai, completely reasonable to ask for a passport when she didn't turn up in the search. Not remotely racist and she should have just turned up with the appropriate documentation.
Same rules are applied to everyone.
