My mum still bleats about the time the washing machine shat itself when she had three kids in nappies. She rang the local dry cleaner in tears out of desperation , he sent around his wife to pick up the washing and they dropped back the huge pile of clean nappies then refused to take any money for it.
-
Re scared of dark.

Our one was fine for a while but then convinced herself she was scared of the dark about 2 years ago and we had to reinvest in a night light. She got to the stage where she was more likely to be awake when we went to bed and closed her door, turned off the hall light.

No sense making her put up with it when a little extra light had no effect on her ability to sleep.

Kids go through phases I suppose. -

Nope, that is another thing we have been strict on, kids sleep in their own beds, we sleep in ours.

Worked with a guy who had real issues with his two boys(8 and 5). The oldest was 5 when I started working with him and he was happily pissing on his hot wheels in the middle of his bedroom then. This guy said his kids were about the naughtiest in their group of friends and his own mother refused to look after them.

He said his mrs just shouted at them when they were naughty, which was almost every minute of everyday and he was very passive(at work he would avoid confrontation by any means). It was causing their marriage to break down as you could well understand it might.

I said that if his wife screamed at them all the time then the boys think that's normal behaviour and will be conditioned to it. He needed to grow a sack and help his wife out and discipline his kids so she didn't have to all the time. After a few months he said things had started to get better and he had gotten quite good at scolding them when needed and his wife was also calming down. The kids knew if dad got involved it was trouble.

Anyway he tells me about 6 months ago things had gotten bad again but in a different way. His oldest son has behavioural issues and isn't fitting in at school. Then he dropped it on me. He said he was having nightmares every night and none of them could sleep. I said shit is he getting up and waking you or is he screaming in his sleep. Old mate said he was kicking in his sleep! His 8 year old son is still sleeping in his parents bed!

I said there was no way their son could possibly mature if he was sleeping in their bet at that age. As it turned out my mate would sleep in his son's bed and the kids were with mum. I said this is another reason why his marriage is probably fucked as there is no way you can get your end away sleeping rooms apart.

He left work not long after. No idea if things have gotten worse or better but he was a funny, almost slow kind of guy when it came to his personal life but he was an exceptional draftsman.
-

my kids are both at their Nanas this week, house is strangely quiet, and empty...

Homo.

Fucking love it when the kids aren't around. Intimate time with Mrs TA is not only more likely, but doesn't require a closed door, a volume control, or a schedule after 10PM. I can watch downloaded stuff on the TV instead of on the PC with the Sonos cranked up like a mofo in order to give the gunshots some punch.

Its the best. Dead set.
-

They have to stay up until 9:30 otherwise there is not enough time for school, tutoring, cello, alternative language, more tutoring, badminton, and finally revision for school tomorrow.

Wrong thread? Guilty pleasure thread is just down the hallway.
-
Youngest is staying with his grandparents in the rapa, oldest is with me as I 'work from home'. Got a weird text from my Mum this morning saying she missed me lots and lots and lots and that I was the best Dad in the world. Took a few moments to register that he'd taken her phone. Apparently the boys swimming instructor ( next to me in the contacts list ) got the same text which is gonna make things a bit awkward for her next time she sees him especially if he's in a state of undress.

Most of you are like me, two kids seems the norm on here, I definitely recommend quality one on one time with your kids whenever possible. They make more of an effort and subsequently so do you. -
Hell yes on that last point. My youngest is often certifiable when with his brother. But when we have him alone he's a perfect little gentleman. An absolute joy in fact. It's a little odd.

It's weird when the kids are away. Initially it's great, but I soon miss them like crazy. And then want them to leave again when they get back. -

Yesterday sucked, first day back at work and dropped my boy back at his mums for the first time since the school holidays started. House feels empty, me and the mrs are missing him like mad.
-

we will get them back on Friday, am sure despite the place not quite complete without them, within 5 minutes of returning we'll be wanting them to leave again! :good:
