Quite correct. Apple have done a very good job of locking people in. But that is also a challenge for them in securing more market share, because those that are willing to (or dont care) be locked into one corporations products.. have been mined.. and sold to.

It is going be a very interesting few years, and like I said, it will take a 'wow' product to make people be willing to sacrifice their Apple eco-system. Just a new PC is not usually enough.

And you didnt even need to mention iTunes!

I barely get time to watch movies these days, so for me it's about music - and spotify has me completely sorted there. I've not even looked at Apple Music, purely because I know I've got too much vested there already. And now that AC/DC is on spotify, I can't think of a single band thats missing on there.

Although I do keep getting receipts for shit like Planes, Volt!, Penguins, Frozen continuously coming through my mail ...

On the other hand, the touch screen device revolution has convinced managers with fuck-all idea about IT that its easy, cheap, and quick.

Don't get me wrong: you can have easy, cheap, and quick. Just don't expect it to do what you expect. Two of those attributes are generally achievable, in opposition to the third.

Good to see you fixed it. Had to wade through too much cock waving in this thread.

Getting back to Apple Corp and its decline. Sorry I should have been clearer. Apple are not in a decline to inferior technology, or profits.

But they have just hit a new phase of bloated corporate BS. They are not on the bleeding edge of anything, their tech is hitting a life cycle stage that is entirely expected. It is really hard to be the front runner. They are just not innovating as much as others any more. They are living off rehashed versions of the same old products, add a certain level of saturation.... and sales get affected. They desperately need something new, maybe they have it coming up. But I doubt it.

I hope you're wrong, cause I've just recently taken a fairly sizeable (for me!) position in their stock.

I have a Windows phone. I think it's great and better than the iphone and Samsung I've previously used. But I also don't use that many apps or other fancy shit. But it still astounds me that MS inflicted Windows 8 on PCs. Wtf were they thinking. Phones and tablets, awesome, but PCs. Retarded.

I also have a Surface which kicks shit out of the ipads the kids are forced to have at school.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Apple could launch the iPoo and people would still buy millions of them.

It's certainly a far cry from that Simpsons episode in the 90s when a hip young dude didn't know wtf Homer was talking about when he mentioned an Apple computer.

I've owned their stock several times before, Rancid, and made a bit. But funnily enough it's not their iAnythings that motivated me this time.

Their last results call failed to make any mention of the line item that showed they spent $9.7bn on R&D in the year to April. I'm betting that the research wasn't simply on developing the new Apple Pencil, or any computer product for that matter. They also spent $11.2bn on tooling and equipment in the same period, again not to produce the pencil. What is it for? People can guess but nobody knows for sure.

It looks to me that they may be on the way towards an iPod type pivot into a different tech path, and if that's the case they are well underpriced.

Wife's laptop updated to Windows 10 the other night, lost detection of HMDI out for audio - no end of faffing about sorted it (drivers, restarted, etc, etc,). Rolled back to Windows 8.1 and hey presto it's all working fine again.

8.1 was fine imo - didn't like native 8 with the tablet/pc interface mash up. But we've got 8.1 at work so that helped with getting familiar with it.

I think its more likely they'll simply buy the underlying basics with their $200b of cash. A step in for Volkswagon for example wouldn't bother them. Nor on a different tack Netflix, although NF is massively over-valued, unlike VW. I'm betting their R&D spend is not on a vehicle, its on an operating unit you drop into a vehicle. So then they just need the vehicle, come on down VW...
